Yup. And it made me wonder about the validity of PhDs. At least there was a blank space to add commentary.I thought the motivation categories were somewhat limited. Other than religious/spiritual reasons, competition/accomplishment reasons, and making new friends, there was the option "to stay fit". I didn't see an option for my main motivation to walk the camino, which I would have thought was more common. I walk the Camino because I love the natural beauty, the history, culture, small villages, food and language. I love passing through regions with different eco-zones and landscapes, different architectural styles and different foods and dialects on foot. I have always loved to hike, and more and more, I like this kind of hiking that includes a bed at the end of the day and cafes.

If your base hypothesis is not correctly framed, all you will get is either a false picture based on the options you gave, or nothing at all. Which is why it is why it is difficult to find the rare thesis director that actually knows something about our topic and can raise flags. And why I am still searching for one, for a non C. subject.

Best response on this thread!!What motivates me are the doner kebabs....
Jill, I thought your comments were spot on regarding why so many of us return to the Camino (and other long distance walks), and agree it was frustrating that the survey didn't give the opportunity to express this. After completing her second Camino my daughter used the experience of pilgramage as the core of her masters in architecture project. She loved exploring the history and motivations of various pilgramage routes and struggled to clearly express this and relate it to, or through, architecture. In the end she focused on the process of moment and the contemplative aspects this can bring, something you expressed so well.I walk the Camino because I love the natural beauty, the history, culture, small villages, food and language. I am completely with you, Jill. Twin soul. Take the time to "smell the roses". When you get to SdC it (the walk and all with it) is over and you are in for an emotional surprise before going home to conformity: Game over.I thought the motivation categories were somewhat limited. Other than religious/spiritual reasons, competition/accomplishment reasons, and making new friends, there was the option "to stay fit". I love meeting and chatting with elderly people in the villages they were born in, and where all of their ancestors since the beginning of time have lived.

Good questionnaire. Like all multiple choice questions, it leaves certain answers off the table, but what's the option? Can't complete the survey as the options on some pages aren't 'active' when I click - anyone else had this problem?
Thank you everyone for your responses! I am very grateful to you all! The survey is now closed and I am in the process of going through the results. I will post a summary of them once I am done - probably around the end of September
