Swollen ankles !

Time of past OR future Camino
August-October 2013
Just six weeks before setting off on the Camino, I am gifted a pair of generously swollen ankles. I had been training regularly with full kit for weeks with absolutely no ill effects. While I'd been unable to train due to work commitments the problem began. I'm nearly 62 and generally hale and hearty.

Any advice? Home remedies?

Thanks

See your doctor or a sports physio. You're asking us to provide medical advice over the internet without the benefit of being able to see your ankles, nor do we really know anything about your existing medical conditions and what treatments you are currently receiving.

A lady who recently returned from her Camino reported on the Facebook APOC page that she experienced swollen ankles after she finished walking and began her tourist adventure in/near Paris. She reported that when she added some miles to her day, the swelling subsided. Apparently some ankles aren't happy with suddenly being benched.

The Camino not only changes us spiritually but physically. Suddenly stopping such an intense and long period of exercise can often result in rebound. Last year my wife's hip became inflamed and I experienced migraines soon after finishing. It was our own fault and we should of known better (my wife's a doctor). It's important to keep up some moderate form of exercise and to come down gently. If you've been taking NSAIDs, slowly cut back, give your body time to adjust. This is not medical advice, this is just common sense. Be gentle to yourself and listen to your body. The spirit, the intellect, the body; they are all in this together.
