ruggedness of Camino Del Norte for weak ankles or knees

Hi, I am a first time pilgrim very excited about the prospect of waking the Camino del Norte. I am a hearty 63 form Berkeley, California. My husband, also a hearty 63, is considering walking, but is concerned about the terrain. On a rugged terrain, he sometimes has ankle and knee problems. So, i have several questions. 1) How steep and rugged is the terrain? 2) Is there any possibility that he could walk some days and take parallel buses some of the time and meet me in the evenings at the auberges? The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Barbara,

The Camino del Norte is not very rugged, but some stages have pretty stiff level changes, mostly at the beginning in the Basque Country. Nothing scary as you can see here: http://www.mundicamino.com/
Click on Camino del Norte, then on stages and pick ''trazado/perfil''. You will see the levels.

As for transportation, there are many buses and small gauge train stations along the way.

Buen Camino!
