Walking the Primitivo in October 2017
I am starting my Camino in Oviedo next Thursday, October 12. I am flying into the Asturias airport.

I dont arrive in Oviedo until after 3pm and I need to make it to Escamplero Thursday night.

I would like to get a taxi to the start of the Primitivo. Can someone tell me the nearest cross streets to the start or address for the start. For a variety of reasons - too long to get into here - i dont have much time to work my way accross around Oviedo.

Thanks in advance for your help.

David

Hi, David,

The cathedral is the typical starting place, in the historic core. But I take it you want to start further along the way? It's about 12 km from Oviedo to Escamplero, nothing strenuous.

So here's one option if you want to start in Oviedo itself but not see the cathedral. The intersection of Covadonga and Independencia is still in the center but on the way out. have the taxi driver point you in the right direction walking down INdependencia. That will save you about a km I would guess. If I misunderstood your question let me know! Buen camino, Laurie

Other option would be to start walking from the Naranco sites and then walk through Uccle and catch up with the Camino where you’ll find a tiny white chapel on the right hand side of the road. It allows you to see those sites and shorten the day by a couple of kms. Taxi or bus up to the Naranco sites. Very close to the train/bus stations, competly bypassing the center of town.

I walked the Primitivo in July. If you can get a taxi to the corner of Calle Soto de Barco and Calle Muros del Nalón, you are at the outskirts of the city. There is a walking path beside Calle Soto de Barco, and you should be able to see the signage of the Camino. Hope this helps. Enjoy your Camino - the Primitivo is beautiful.

The bus station is quite near (5 mins) the Camino route with its yellow signs and shells going out of Oviedo.

Hi, has anyone walked the Primitivo in mid-October? What was it like? Weather, tracks and accommodation? I plan to walk from Oviedo to Lugo only, then bus to Santiago after. Thanks for your input.
