Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Maybe you could add that the the "Burst my Camino Bubble" thread.Ohhh ... I so wish that they dressed as medieval knights!!
Apparently the Guardia Civil has a calvary, it during the summer it is used to look out for pilgrims.
A lady tripped today on the Acebo and banged her head quite badly. The cavalry was sent in to rescue her. Horses give rescuers access to areas that would be difficult to access otherwise.

...Google translate is sometimes Google nonsense.
Trusting Google Translate is not wise. But one should even be cautious about trusting a human: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7702913.stm (Though technically, that was also a computer, but they thought it was a human.)Yes, and that you can buy a completed credential on eBay! At least I think that is what the article says (Google translate is sometimes Google nonsense).
Oh to be 55 years younger!I would like the bloke in my photo above to rescue me
Looks like an upside down frying pan without a handle! No suits of armour but the Guardia dress uniform involves this surreal hard hat:

That's quite a hat! It's called a tricornio. Here's some info about it, and a picture from days past.No suits of armour but the Guardia dress uniform involves this surreal hard hat:

Thanks for posting this link @trecile . I didn't know about all the changes of uniforms and hats but I do know something about their role in Spanish Civil War (very good docu series here although a bit old but very unbiased:) when they were pretty unpopular.
I knew that so very Catholic Spain was one of the first European countries to allow gay marriages but I didn't know that the same spirit got into Guardia Civil. Nice!
If he looks like that guy in front wearing shades he doesn't need any armor to make my day. LOLI would LOVE a medieval knight to rescue me
Surely "Pendientes Fuertes" means "Strong Earrings"? Or have I been asking for the wrong thing when buying jewelry for my daughter?Indeed Kanga. I'd say the Spanish road authorities should bear that in mind too.

Seeing that badge still gives me the shivers though - I remember seeing it in the crest above the barracks in Melide. Todo por la Patria indeed. No suits of armour but the Guardia dress uniform involves this surreal hard hat:

San Sebastian in 1965 - we were warned not to take photos of the guard unless we wanted to be arrested! That's quite a hat! It's called a tricornio. Here's some info about it, and a picture from days past.
