Apparently the Guardia Civil has a calvary, it during the summer it is used to look out for pilgrims.

A lady tripped today on the Acebo and banged her head quite badly. The cavalry was sent in to rescue her. Horses give rescuers access to areas that would be difficult to access otherwise.

I really was careful coming down this section. I think I spent more time looking were my feet were going rather than at the view!

Infantry, too. This newspaper note explains that "incidents" (most of them minor, including rescues, but also some quarrels and robberies) are on the rise, and some plainclothes policemen have been deployed along the Camino. I hope they have noticed that, without a backpack, they will be quite conspicuous.:)

Yes, and that you can buy a completed credential on eBay! At least I think that is what the article says (Google translate is sometimes Google nonsense).

Trusting Google Translate is not wise. But one should even be cautious about trusting a human: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7702913.stm (Though technically, that was also a computer, but they thought it was a human.)

Thanks for posting this link @trecile . I didn't know about all the changes of uniforms and hats but I do know something about their role in Spanish Civil War (very good docu series here although a bit old but very unbiased:
) when they were pretty unpopular.
I knew that so very Catholic Spain was one of the first European countries to allow gay marriages but I didn't know that the same spirit got into Guardia Civil. Nice!
