The Way, a movie about the Camino

Has anybody seen the movie The Way with Martin Sheen? I did the camino in May-June 2006 and in my old age (70! yikes!), I am dreaming of doing it again. This movie gave me an incentive to go in 2013. The experiences of the characters are very real for me and the locations brought back wonderful memories. I have some quibbles about it but they are minor, like for example, the main character, without any training, decided to do the camino in memory of his son who died at the beginning of his walk, and yet he was not shown suffering from blisters. Also, the characters seem to have a big wardrobe in their backpacks! Otherwise, it is a very good movie. For those who have not walked to Santiago de Compostela yet, this film will give them enough background info. Highly recommended. It is now on DVD and available in most libraries. Hi,

Yes "The Way" is well known to a lot of forum members and there have been a number of threads relating to the film and reviews of it (just search in the forum for "Estevez" to read some of them). From recent Pilgrim Introduction posts it seems the film has inspired many to walk the Camino in the coming months and years.

As you say, there are some parts of the film that are a liitle beyond the reality but overall a good film and one that has inspired several members of my family to walk in June.

Hello Jess! I am in Queens... saw your p[ost. M y husband and I have seen THE WAY although my interest in the camino began years ago after reading the Coelho book ... He became interested when I asked him if he wanted to walk it with me. We will be doing the Camino Ingles...he will be 62 and I will just be turning 48 on the Camino, next year in June we plan on going! I am so excited! How was your first camino...age is just a number! You can do it again!

Saw the movie last week and it was beautiful... Think i cried a couple of times during the movie. Loved it!
Wonder if everybody will find his own "Jost from Amsterdam" on the Camino...
