To get up there you have to pass thru the museum ( showing the "credencial" you get a discount.
The museum is worthwhile too.

Yes, I went to the museum last year- during my second time in Santiago. Very interesting- and loved the view from up there over the Square.

It is daily, though the English tour may not be. Check with the museum office to the left of the stairs as you face the cathedral.

When I was in Santiago in July, I was happy to get a ticket for both the Portico de la Gloria and the "cubiertas" (rooftop). But I have to confess I was a little disappointed to see that the lovely ballroom/refectory of the Palacio de Xelmeriz has been converted into a room for temporary exhibitions. I thought that it really detracted from the beauty of that room, and in fact some of the romanesque carvings were a little obscured by the displays. Does anyone know if this is a permanent change, or whether this was just a one time deal?
