Most of us carefully choose what to take in our backpack, often packing, taking out, re-packing several times. We arrive finally at what we consider to be a correct weight according to our own weight ( trying to remain in the famous 10% of our body weight).
Still we often take too much, as we sadly find out several days into our Camino and we end up either dumping things or sending ahead to our destination.
But then what happens? We (read me) start to accumulate things: a map here, a brochure there, some useful information taken from a tourist office or from a museum or cathedral. Not to mention various pills, creams, plasters (compeed for instance), knee support or other bandages, a rain cape ( you thought you would go without this), plus your daily snack supplies. All this adds up and in short time, you might find yourself with another kilo in your pack before you ever realize. On my first Camino, I returned with an incredible amount of memorabilia, not to mention what I had bought in pharmacies along the way! Frankly, there is no way that you will keep to your original backpack contents! Anne

A year ago, for a rainy day of rest in Pamplona I bought an umbrella. I just didn't want to be dripping in all the churches and stores and cafes I was visiting. I guess it's just how I feel about an urban environment.

I carried the umbrella to the end of my hike in Burgos and used it last night. Its weight never occurred to me. No idea why.

I seem to accumulate cans of tuna, and packets of salt, both which I could not survive without! Lol

I've learned to take photos of business cards, receipts, and brochures. Then I don't have to carry them.
