Possibility for floating (tanks) along the Norte?

I am doing the Norte from April 2024. I have lately really enjoyed floating in floating tanks. I feel that would be an amazing addition to my rest days. I am looking for possibilities along the way. I did not find anything on my first search in english, and my spanish is not good enough... Anyone who have tried some or that could help me with some hints towards the best search terms? I do not know if this is at all popular/available in Spain.

Since it is an activity a little bit out there, I will put some info on it here:

The concept is that one floats in a tank with water high in salts making floating really easy.

"Studies suggest time spent floating in a sensory deprivation tank may have some benefits in healthy people, such as muscle relaxation, better sleep, decrease in pain, and decreased stress and anxiety."

I do not know about the studies, I just really enjoy it and it relaxes me very well.

If you find a publicly accessible sensory deprivation tank on the CdNorte I’ll send €10 to a charity of your choice and post the receipt.
Love your answer! Not what it implies (no floating for me) but the humor you managed to put in it. Made me laugh.

Thank you!

I will keep you to it if I manage to find one :)

A quick Google search shows a couple in Madrid or Barcelona. I don't see any listed for the Norte.
Thank you for trying!

I found "a dead sea pool" as part of a spa in Santiago. But not a sensory deprivation tank. I guess it was a long shot... I'll might just have to stick to massages. What a hard life :-D

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Isn't this just a bath with a bath bomb in it? And for added sensory deprivation you could wear those ear plugs and eye mask you're probably bringing for the Albergues.
Not far off, but far enough that it matters. The water is so salty that you float effortlessly. It feels like you are weightless. You can almost fall asleep and just float.

You are AMAZING! I searched every possible term related to floating in tanks, bath salts, etc. and there's not one post in the history this forum closely related to yours. Just when I I thought every topic had been covered to death, Milena from Norway gets me thinking about how incredible floating in a tank of hyper-saline water would be after a 30 km day on the Camino. Oh yes -- I'll have that please. In fact, I think I need to find out what this is all about close to home before I inadvertently experience any mystical visions on the Camino ... :)

When I first heard about these a few years ago, I thought that it was a cool idea - until I saw a picture, and realized that I'm too claustrophobic.

I could do one of these open style tanks though.

Yeah, I had to work with myself and the idea of that egg. But got through it. Yesterday I got to try a version that looks like a smaller room inside the normal room. With doors and everything. Definitely more my vibe.

Ohh I love to float! I’m a regular user of float tanks here in Brisbane for relaxation, athletes used to use them for recovery, although the hyperbaric chamber has taken over in recent years (and ice baths). A 90 minute float is like having 8 hours sleep apparently…. You are more likely to find a float room instead of a pod these days. Same principle, no light, sound, and floating in a pool of salt water. I would have loved to have found them on my various caminos…although the Vaseline to protect the blisters would have had a work out 😂

This is the best question ever! (SO tired of "what shoes should I wear on the camino?" and "how do I transport my luggage?")
I'll be on the Norte about the same time - I hope we run into each other. I have a feeling you might also like good food and wine.....

They are called flotation tanks in UK.
Thanks! I found the first list, but I do not think any of them are on Camino del Norte, but will have to check better. The second one is new to me.

It would be sooo cool to find at least one place, both for the floating, but also just to be able to write back here about it :p ;)

You never know, you might find one in a wellness centre somewhere along the Norte 😉

You might have more luck searching for those centres …

Btw … none of those places are anywhere near the Norte.
The folks in Southern Spain seem to be more ‘switched on’ to those sorts of things 😉

Pretty sure you mean “the tourists visiting Southern Spain”…

I saw a film about those sensory deprivation tanks where they would drive people mad and give them hallucinations.

This was in a science class some 60 years ago though. I still remember the animated walking eyeglasses portraying a hallucination. 🤣

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I think this might be on my "to try" list, but not in a pod as I'm claustrophobic. Research to do when I get home. Thanks for the idea.
I just learned of those that are not a pod but more like a huge deep shower. Works wonders I think. It had a regular door and you could just step out.
