Time of past OR future Camino
2019
As the planning progresses, more questions arise. Again, I will appreciate your help. Can the Pyrenees be crossed in mid-October? And if the answer is yes- what route is better?
How can we return from Roncesvalles to Paris?
Thanks
Sharon

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

The official date of closure for the Napoleon route is November 1st, but that can be earlier if the weather brings an earlier and heavy snowpack. The Valcarlos route through the Pyrenees from St Jean is open year around, but Pilgrims may be advised against travel on a particular day if the weather poses an undue risk.

The Pilgrim office in SJPdP will always provide the best current weather and travel advice for pilgrims.

For returning to Paris from Roncesvalles, you can see some options here.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thanks Dave. Your comment is important . It is very difficult to make a decision from such a distance of time. I assume that we will have to take into account that we may not be able to cross this time.

What Dave said is 100% correct. I will be arriving in SJPP on October 28th. My plan is to drop off my pack in the albergue and go directly to the pilgrim office. Number 1 on my list will not be getting my passport but getting the weather report. If there is any doubt I will not leave on the 29th until I check back in with the Pilgrim Office again unless I can get reliable information before leaving my albergue.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I agree with the various comments about needing to check the weather and follow the advice of the pilgrim office. Take the Valcarlos route if it is recommended. However, I must say that I have twice walked the Napoleon route from SJPP to Roncesvalles in mid-October, with beautiful weather. Once it was very chilly (take gloves and a good windbreaker). I think your chances are good.
