Camino Frances--June and July (2015)
Approximately how long does it take to walk to Leon from St Jean? We're walking in the summer and obviously it varies from each person, but me and the others walking with me are young and healthy and have been training for a short while (about 6 months in advance). We're having the rest of the group meet us in Leon once we reach there, but need to buy tickets. We aren't expecting it all to go perfectly but they'll buy the tickets for whatever date will be 2 days before our predicted arrival in the hopes that we can stay an extra day for resting and to see the city.

Hi Abigail,

Welcome to an incredible forum filled with more information and answers one could ever imagine.

My first thought was it would take about 3 weeks from SJPdP to Leon. Then I remembered I have a little "stage" map which might be a starting point in your planning. Give this a look. It is a bit dated, yet still gives a good idea of elevation gain, distances, etc.

Keep asking questions. We are all here to extend the helping hand.

Trust in the arrows,
Simeon

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Take as much time as you can, walk slowly enjoy the view, enjoy the towns and villages, enjoy the company, Burgos is more manageable than Leon, both are amazing. Read up a bit before you go try "The Pilgrimage Road to Santiago, The Complete Cultural Handbook" by David M. Gilitz and Linda Kay Davidson. A very bulky "handbook" which I cherish and have carried on three different Caminos, find it in Kindle format here

This is a village by village guide written by two American professors, a husband and wife team who have lead many pilgrimages with their students. History, art and architecture all along the Camino and guides to the cathedrals in Burgos and Leon, both can be enjoyed as pretty lights and Disneyland both overwhelming without some sort of guide.
