We plan to take a train from Paris to SJPP. I am wondering what is the cheapest way to buy tickets. In advance? Through what company?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
This is the English language site for SNCF - the French national train company. Straightforward to search and book from there. You are more likely to find discount prices if you book well in advance.

Be careful to first select your location using the little flag icon. This site is for online sales if you live in Europe including the UK. If you are booking from outside Europe, selecting the 'Rest of the World' option appears to redirect you to the national site licenced to sell SNCF etc tickets in your country.

Booking on this site is possible, but there have been issues doing so in the past that have been raised here on the forum. The disclaimer, in the fine print is
OUI.sncf is the official European distribution channel of the French railways (SNCF) for online sales of high-speed and conventional rail travel throughout France and Europe: plan your journeys, book your train tickets and get inspired by our travel guides!

ps if you are using a VPN that hides your country of origin, the site may not be able to do the redirection properly. If so, you will need to find the right booking site another way.

Don’t believe you will get direct way train Paris to SJPP.
Most likely will have to Paris>Bayonne >SJPP
Changing to smaller train in Bayonne

If train is not running out of Bayonne to SJPP, catch bus. Bus leaves by train station. Out front door to your left in parking lot.

Know which station you are leaving from out of Paris
Did metro few years ago with bikes. Arrived in one station from Germany and rode metro (lagging bikes and bags!) to the other station.

I booked my train ticket to sjpp through trainline. It was seventy euro. TGV Charles de gaulle to bordeaux and onto bayonne and then a train to sjpp. I would highly recommend it. The tickets are transferable if the train is delayed.

It depends on where you are catching the trains. I normally purchase tickets at Charles de Gaul AP and catch the train on the first floor. The price is comparable to every where else. Just catch the train to Bayonne and then the connector from Bayonne to SJPP. Keep in mind that there are 6 St. Johns in France, so be specific when buying tickets. It may be best to write it on a piece of paper and give it to the ticket clerk. I saw it go horribly wrong on my last Camino. The couple did not realize they had a problem (going to the wrong St. Jean) until I informed them of it at Burgundy.

I use Loco2 a world train site recommended by seat 61 a well known travellers train site. Loco2 is easy to navigate. Gives senior discounts regardless of nationalitoes and you can see if bikes are allowed in the train. I paid 24euro from Calais to bayonne (10 euro extra for bike) changing in Paris and arrive bayonne 9.47pm where I found a bed in albergue for 20euro and will get 1pm train to st Jean the next day. I bought these tickets 40 days in advance when bookings opened and arrive st Jean June 4 to start cycling 10 weeks on 5 caminos. Buen camino.

This is also what I used and had no issues!

Note that Rail Europe is also the source in the US to purchase Eurail and country-specific train passes which can only be purchases in the US (and not in Europe), due to special pricing.

Eurail train passes would only of value if you plan to travel a lot around Europe before/after the Camino.

Hi. Don’t know when you are planning your Camino but a flight from Orly airport to Biarritz in early April next year is $93 Cdn. If you fly out now anywhere from $125 to $165 for cheapest. Flight is 1h20m.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
As most of you have already said - from Paris Montparnasse, you have to take the TGV to Bayonne and from there the train to Saint-Jean-Pied-du-Port. Buy your ticket (two separate tickets – one to Bayonne and another to SJPdP) from the French train website https://www.oui.sncf/.

In the past it was better to buy a ticket from French web, rather than it's English version, because the tickets were...cheaper. At one point French website made a discount that it's English version didn't. I bought the tickets immediately. Maybe check it just in case?

My experience.
I also am a satisfied "Registered" Trainline user. Have been for years.

The best discount, all tickets for that matter, become available 90 days before departure. They get progressively more expensive as the departure date approaches.
Set a note on your calendar!
Enter (precisely) from/to as Paris Montparnasse/Bayonne.

I always get the 7.30am-ish train, which leaves from Gare Montparnasse, to Bayonne. It arrives in time to catch the little valley rattler to St Jean from Bayonne station. The rattler, has in the past, waited for the Paris train to arrive before leaving for St Jean.
Just to show what I mean, the current price offered for the 7.52am train, 8th november (3 months in advance) is €25.
Is that a deal or what!
I just love this train ride thru the beautiful French countryside, Wouldn't miss it for quids.
Regards
Gerard

I'm about to start the Camino Portuguese, and was wondering what rideshare options are available in Europe?
