Transit Recommendations to SJPdP from Pamplona

Hello forum. I am nearly 50 years old living in the Northern Rocky Mountains of the U.S. and am planning to complete my first walk--- the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago--- between mid October and mid November of this year. I arrive into Madrid from the U.S. and it appears that I can train to Pamplona. Is it easy to hire a taxi from Pamplona (train station) to SJPdP and does anyone have a ballpark estimate of the cost--or a better option for transit from Pamplona. I am also looking for a solid 3-star hotel/(or better)/private room in SjPdP to rest up for a few days before commencing my journey and would welcome any recommendations. Thank you.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi Chris.
First of all, when I walk the Camino, I walk out of T4 at Madrid after arriving (hopefully in the morning) and right onto a bus to Pamplona. You can book ahead if you wish, but I usually just get a ticket from the driver. You can find schedules on either the ALSA website or at movelia.es which is in Spanish but not too hard to figure out. Just remember to put the date in (don't use the calendar) as DAY/MONTH/2019

I'd suggest you book a room in Pamplona to rest from the trip and time change. I would do that now, not later. Prices go up as you near the time of arrival. You can find lodging on www.booking.com

Next day (or day after) you can take a bus from Pamplona to SJPP. If you prefer to hire a taxi, you can contact Caminofacil online and ask about prices but if the buses are still running, it will be a LOT less expensive.

The nice thing about resting up in Pamplona is that there is a LOT to see there. Museums, Cathedrals, parks, and then, when the rest of the pilgrims are stopping in Pamplona on their way through, you can just keep walking and get "between the stages" ...

Good luck and Buen Camino!

You can look at this taxi company in Pamplona. They specialize in transporting pilgrims from Pamplona to Saint Jean Pied de Port.

You make your reservation online. You tell them your arrival location for pick up. During the reservation process, you can choose an option stating that you want to share a taxi with others going to SJPdP. The fare is shared by all the passengers. The company will then work to schedule a full taxi for you.

If they already have a taxi scheduled to travel to SJPdP near your time of arrival in Pamplona, and that taxi still has a seat available, they can reserve a seat on that taxi for you.

I took an Alsa bus for around €3 I believe. This was less than a month ago.

My wife and I arrived today in Madrid and took the 3:05 train to Pamplona. The 11:35 was almost makeable, but Renfe would not let us change tickets. We taxi'd into the "old town" and are staying at the very nice Hotel Maisonnave. Note: They exchanged U.S. Dollars for Euros at a very generous rate. Pinxtos at San Fermin were great including the Navarra wine. Our taxi share to SJPP did not make. The solo rate is 130 euros.
