Via Regia - Glaubitz accommodation

Camino(s) past & future

Inspired by SYates’ wonderful post Live updates - Via Regia, I have decided to do my third Camino on the Via Regia from Görlitz to Leipzig in September. I prefer to book my accommodation in advance, as I have previously done on the Via Podiensis and Camino Portugues. So far I have identified suitable accommodation for most of my planned overnight stops, but not Glaubitz. SYates’ advice suggests that there are several B&Bs there. Does anyone know their names and their contact details?

Or, does anyone know how busy those places are around mid-September, and whether it is possible for 2 pilgrims to just walk in without a booking?

Thank you very much in advance for any advice!

For Germany, I would take a look at www.hrs.com to find accommodations as they will list hostels as well as budget rooms. Otherwise, you might want to utilize the Tourist Info in these towns.

In Germany, mid-September starts Oktoberfest season, so booking in advance is likely wise. But you might be fine just booking 1-2 days in advance. Glaubnitz might wait until you are in-country and have access to the local Tourism Offices.

Oktoberfest is only in Munich, it doesn't affect the rest of the country.

Well, then! September usually offers fine weather for walking, and there shouldn't be crowds competing for accommodation.

Thank you both for your responses! I had never heard of hrs.com before. A quick search indicates that it has similar listings to those on booking.com, which of course also shows options from dorm beds to 5 star resorts.

But it is good to know that it is relatively safe to wait till we are in country to sort out our accommodation in that part of Germany.

The Via Regia is really not that frequented, so getting a place in the pilgrim hostels shouldn't be a problem! Also, Glaubnitz? Do you mean the monastery Marienstern? They do have a small albergue. Most of the albergues can NOT be booked beforehand, but they often like you to call in the morning/evening before. If you stay only in BnBs and similar you would miss some truly magical places to stay at. Just saying ;-) Buen Camino, SY

Yes, that is exactly what I thought! Thanks to the fabulous information you provided in your Live Updates thread, we managed to find those pilgrims places, which we couldn't see in our web searches. Thank you again for all the great tips! :)
