Thinking of walking for two weeks in February. Will it be very cold? Think I could walk 30 km a day. so I reckon I could do about 250 km. Is this realistic? Where is a good starting point?
About the weather in February, it should be starting to warm up a bit. But as always in Galicia, the weather changes fast so it is difficult to tell. Have a look at this link for some more ideas on the weather: viewtopic.php?t=515
Regarding starting points. I am writing this while at work, so I don't have a map here but is not Leon about 300km out from Santiago? 30km a day sounds like a lot, but with 14 days...
...does any of our Pilgrim veterans have an opinion on this?
assuming Camino Frances, roughly speaking:
Sarria 100km
Cebreiro 150km
Ponferrada 200km
Astorga 250km
Leon 300km
Sahagun 350km
Fromista 400km
Burgos 475km
all, except Cebreiro, accessible by bus and/or train
By my maths, 14 days @ 30km = ~400km. So, allowing for a rest day or two, plus time to look around, Leon would probably be a good bet.
Strap on a pack and stride round the Sperrins for a couple of days - that'll tell you what daily distance you're comfortable with.
The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
