Walking the Camino in early Sept: safety? human traffic?

Hi to all!

I am a Portuguese young woman planning to walk the Camino for the first time, from Barcelos, now in early September, and would like to know how crowded (or not) it gets. I know it's usually not crowded and I'm kind of grateful for that, but on the other hand it would be very nice to see the faces of some friendly fellow pilgrims on the way.

Also, I will go with a female friend (we were going with a group but they are probably either cancelling or starting later on), and we are a bit worried about safety, we'd prefer to have some company on the way :)

So, any opinions? Any of you walking too in a few weeks?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hola

The Camino Portuguese is busy at the moment and has been for the last couple of weeks as groups of young people heading for Madrid wanted to walk a camino before seeing the Pope. Things will settle down by September but I am certain there will be many other pilgrims around. You won't be alone, you needn't worry about safety other than taking usual precautions and I'm sure you will meet others.
Let us know how you get on.

Buen Camino

Hello!

Good luck on your camino! I just returned from Portugal, starting in Lisbon--and most of the pilgrims are women. I remember being in an albergue in Mos, and there were only three men--32 women. None of the women I met had any problems at all, and in June and July, the route was fairly empty.

All the best,

Lee
