Time of past OR future Camino
Frances 2018
I'm looking into the timing of my next Camino Frances and I thinking about late September to early November. Wondering what the weather is going to entail around that timeframe.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

It will be mostly mild, with some chilly nights. There will be some rain on the 6th and 7th of October and on the 24th a heavy thunderstorm.. otherwise dry until the 2nd of November when it will rain continuously for 11 days..

But generally, autumn in Northern Spain is mild and pleasant in the daytime but can get quite chilly at night. I was lucky to walk for 10 days with no rain last November, but I've been soaked through on previous caminos in September so who knows? But be prepared, bring layers and a poncho or rain jacket and you'll be fine whatever it throws at you..

I’ve often walked in late October (various section of the Frances as it corresponds to UK school hols) and have often had really good weather. There’s been the occasional bit of rain but generally I found it to be a good time to walk. Sun’s up just around 8ish and it does get chilly in the evenings. The later in October you start, the quieter the Camino, which means less worry about beds. Later in the year some albergues don’t open until 2pm so it’s nice to just chill and enjoy the walk.

Check average weather on Google, but remember this is autumn and you are ending up in one of the wettest regions in Europe, so be prepared for hot, dry, cold and wet.

October is nice. Days were mild, mornings could be cold. November had lots of rain both times I walked this time of year. The mornings are dark until the time change at the end of Oct. so take a headlamp. The vineyards are changing color and are shades of red and gold. It’s a nice time to walk.
