Given all the questions about numbers walking this year, I thought quite a few people would be interested in this website. It is in several languages and among other information shows the numbers of people who have arrived in Santiago each day.

I thought quite a few people would be interested in this website. It is in several languages and among other information shows the numbers of people who have arrived in Santiago each day.

The website gives very accurate statistics on those who applies and receives the Certificate in Santiago Cathedral Office. This forum however mentions there are five times as many people walking simultaneously with the pilgrims, many of which do not apply or receive the Certificate.

The pictures showing the crowd of walkers arriving in Santiago, and the comments on the full albergues, indicates that there much more walkers than that mentioned in the Cathedral website.

Hi Cecelia,have been looking at this wedsite, of and on for the last few days,as it does seem the numbers are getting more and more each day that do arrive in Santiago.Very interesting,is it because of Holy Year,I am about to set of on the 15 June,am glad that i will be packing my one man tent,as it may be hard to find a Bed? by the looks of things along the Way,,GOOD WALKING TO ALL

During the month of june 2010, 33.721 pilgrims were received at the Pilgrim's Office. The number of pilgrims in the past Holy Year, 2004, during the same period was 19.924. Of those pilgrims, 14.259 (42,29%) were women and 19.462 (57,71%) men. 27.883 (82,69%) pilgrims arrived on foot, 5.677 (16,84%) by bicycle, 159 (0,47%) on horseback, and 2 (0,01%) pilgrims on wheel-chair.

Pilgrims' Age:
6.334 pilgrims were younger than 30 years old (18,78%), 20.976 were between 30 and 60 years old (62,20%), and 6.411 were aged above 60 years old (19,01%).

Pilgrims' Motivation:
Religious: 18.615 (55,20%)
Religious and Cultural: 13.329 (39,53%)
Cultural: 1.777 (5,27%)

Pilgrims' Nationality:
Spanish: 20.622 (61,15%); Most of the pilgrims came from Galicia: 4.189 (20,31%); Madrid: 3.865 (18,74%); Cataluña: 2.267 (10,99%); Andalucía: 2.230 (10,81%); Comunidad Valenciana: 1.815 (8,80%); Castilla León: 1.426 (6,91%); Castilla la Mancha: 898 (4,35%); Pais Vasco: 828 (4,02%); etc.

Foreigners: 13.099 (38,85%); Most of the pilgrims come from the following countries: Germany: 2.442 (18,64%); Italy: 1.837 (14,02%); Portugal: 1.666 (12,72%); France: 1.311 (10,01%); USA: 667 (5,09%); Holland: 456 (3,48%); Ireland: 378 (2,89%); Brazil: 337 (2,57%); etc.

Pilgrims' Profession:
Regarding the professional fields, the majority of pilgrims are Employees: 8.750 (25,95%); Retired: 5.184 (15,37%); Technicians: 4.222 (12,52%); Liberales: 3.560 (10,56%); Students: 3.266 (9,69%); Public Servants: 2.462 (7,30%); Workers: 1.608 (4,77%); Housewives: 1.542 (4,57%); etc.

Starting Points:
Most of the pilgrims received in this period started their Way to Santiago in: Sarria: 6.915 (20,51%); S. Jean P. Port: 3.120 (9,25%); Cebreiro: 2.569 (7,62%); Roncesvalles: 2.145 (6,36%); Tui: 1.621 (4,81%); León: 1.610 (4,77%); Ponferrada: 1.364 (4,04%); Astorga: 886 (2,63%); etc.

The Chosen Routes:
Most of the pilgrims chose Frances-Camino de: 23.711 (70,32%); Portugues-Camino: 4.248 (12,60%); Norte-Camino de: 2.206 (6,54%); Via de la Plata: 1.660 (4,92%); Primitivo-Camino: 927 (2,75%); etc.

The Cebreiro, Sarria etc figures show whey there have been some report of albergues not being overflowing farther towards Roncesvalles/France - they certainly MUST be busy within a week or so from Santiago.
