Time of past OR future Camino
I plan to walk in September 2015.
Hello all,

I'm so glad to have found you. Now that I know I have the time for this pilgrimage in September, it makes research and reading forums all real!

Not sure yet which route will be my first; I love it that each has its own appeal. The Portuguese Coastal Way from Porto, though not as long, gets the seawater in my veins going. It all remains to be seen!

Welcome to the Forum!
You will not regret walking the PC. The Portugese Camino is a beautiful camino, the Portugese people are very nice and friendly and the food is wonderful. A year later I still miss the Pastis Nata together with my Cafe con leche in the mornings.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions here, there are so many good people here ready to share their knowledge and give good advice.
Buen Camino to you.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm so excited about this trip that I've been staying up waaaay past my bedtime this week reading & watching everything about the Camino that is online (and that's a lot!).

I'm living in Kuwait, and though you can find a Gucci (however it's spelled) store in every mall, in a country of 3 million people, there is just one, count 'em, one store that sells trek type gear. I purchased the only available backpack in a size smaller than the mammoth 70-something L: a 35L NorthFace (Stormbreak).

I was happy with the bag, but after reading MORE posts started second guessing the purchase because of a review that said that all NorthFace packs have problems (hopefully no wild child behavior; my auberge bunk mates won't be pleased).

There are two questions I ask myself about stuff in my life, 'Do you like it because you have it, or do you have it because you like it?' Right now, it's the former, but I'm a hopin' that once I'm a walkin', I will find the universe provided me with the perfect pack.

Summer selection of hiking shoes are due in next month, I think the only brands this store carries are NorthFace and Patagonia, and I haven't seen anyone talking about those. On the other hand, if I end up being a walking advertisement for NF, perhaps I'll contact them to see if they will sponsor my walk.

:)

Welcome Leez. No need to go overboard buying technical stuff other than boots, socks and bag, though light zip-off trousers are recommended by many of us. You can always buy things on arrival and maybe they will be cheaper. In September (well actually all year) you will find it cooler than Kuwait so think about how you will deal with that. Of course you may be an ex-pat and already know. Good luck and Buen Camino.
