I am in santander and have only a few days in which to walk. What would be the nicest section to walk? Is there a train or bus to and from santander?

If you take the FEVE train out to Pendueles and then walk the E9 and the Camino to Ribadasella it goes along the coast and is well supplied with various accomodation. The FEVE runs along there so you could return from any point before Ribadasella if neecessary.
Morning train from Santander leaves at 9.10, the afternoon one at 16.10 (I suggest checking this). There are only these 2 daily.
The train back from Ribadasella is about 11.00am and also one late afternoon. Be careful checking the return time as 2 of the 4 trains from Oviedo only go to Llanes on the return journey.

The Camino is signed off to the right in the middle of Pendueles (bar with 2 rooms, and also 2 albergues) as the original route is now diverted to the E9 away from the roadworks.
Also see http://www.gronze.com/guia-del-camino-del-norte/etapas/etapa-16-colombres-llanes Between Columbres (not on the FEVE) and Pendueles is now mostly on a busy road because of the roadworks cutting the old Camino, and it is a real mess after Buelna to La Franca, where you then walk 7 kms on diversions to come out again near La Franca only 2kms from where you went off the road.
Hope this helps and Buen mini Camino
It looks as though this has been re-routed since we walked and now follows the road to La Franca, then turns right to a path. See Gronze for this section -Etapa 16.Any news on the Colombres to Pendueles path??
