On my second Camino I was entering the village of Villafranca and passed some recent roadwork/escavation in the residual dirt and gravel a flat stone beckoned me to pick it up, it turned out to be an old coin from the reign of Queen Isabella and Ferdinand dated from around 1470, it is a very special keepsake from that Camino.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Amazing!!

Cannot beat that .......... but on my first camino I started at Roncesvalles where the Hospitaleros had a table for unwanted items. I picked up a heavy duty interlocking knife , fork and spoon set - My treasure that I took all the way to Santiago with me.

The realisation that I love to walk.

Every walk I do I collect a pebble at the start and another at the end. I place these on either side of a photograph, or souvenir tile of the route I've walked. I have about 10 of these small box frames on my bathroom wall!

On my first Camino, I brought home some soil from the Camino and a few dried poppy seeds. Each year a few poppies grow and each year I replant the seeds. Each year the plants and the seeds get smaller and smaller. Last year they were minute - the flowers no bigger than my thumb nail!

Everyone can have a couple of these!

The back of the 5c coin has the Santiago Cathedral on it. Great to keep as a medallion or just a keepsake.

In Santiago this year Terry bought me pair off jet stud-style earings. Talking to the owner of the azabacheria we learnt that they made the 800 year anniversary cross for the Cathedral, which makes my earings even more special.

I started out for my Camino Frances on Palm Sunday and received a slip of 'palm' (well actually a piece of Irish yew!) at mass just before I left. For some reason I ended up tying this to my pack with a bit of string. As I walked I picked up slips of various plants and added them to this little 'Camino Bouquet' . Even though some things did dry up and fall off a surprising amount didn't and the posey made it all the way home. Though dessicated and brown it's a lovely souvenir of that pilgrimage and one I treasure.
Whenever I'm on pilgrimage now I start with a little cutting from home and add to it as I walk along.
