Wondering about walking to Santiago de Compistela aug/oct 08

Hi, my name is Hedda. I'm 16 years old from Norway. Yesterday the strangest thing happend to me, and to make a long story short, I have now started planning to take the walk from Lugo to Santiago de Compostela next year. In that case I'm wondering if anyone from up here north have done that travel, and may be able to tell me about smart ways to get there from scandinavia. I am really looking forward to the trip and if anyone out there is planning to do the same around the same timespecter, I would really love to get it tuch and shere thoughts and wonderings.
Otherwise I am very greatful for tips and comments about things relevant to the journey.

Hedda

Hello Hedda,

you seem to be considering August and October. I live in Santiago and I've seen pilgrims in huge numbers in town in August. So if you like to meet a lot of people and if you don't mind crowded albergues and maybe competing for a place to sleep, that month could be your choice. But if you are looking for contemplation and time to think or be alone, then opting for October might be the more suitable alternative.

I've just seen this post by Touva. It seems that finding a place to sleep might still be problematic in September.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi Hedda,

weather forcasting is a tough job. :)
Statistically speaking August is the hottest month with the least rainfall. And even this year's August in Galicia with less sun and more rain won't change that.
But if you really want to start in Lugo then you'll probably be walking about three or four days and you could have three days of rain or three days of dry heat.

By the way, may I ask what made you choose Lugo for a starting point?

Hi again.

I have now decided to walk in october, that gives me more days.
I chose Lugo 'caus I've only heard postitiv things about that routh and I had so few days to walk the trip :S So right now I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

With that much time Leon would be a reasonable place to start. It is about 300 km so you could do it by walking 15-20 km/day. If you did more than that you might have time to go all the was to Finisterre.

Hi Hedda,
Welcome to the 'Forum', - I can't give you details re travel from Scandinavia to Spain, but if you go through the mails on this forum I think you will come across pilgrims from your area who may be able to help.
Re '..a strange thing happened' and you decided to walk to Santiago, I think there must have been something there before within you.
You said you intend to walk from Lugo,- that is a relatively short distance from Santiago, ( no criticism) but to be quite honest if you had been walking further, I wold have suggested that 16/17 years is, I think, a little young to get the best out of the Pilgrimage. But I don't know you or your background/maturity so go ahead, Maybe it will give you the taste for a longer pilgrimage later on.
Whatever you do, I wish you the best,

Buen Camino,
Brendan.
