The Vdlp is one of my favorites. There is lots of time for solitude and reflection, if that’s what your looking for, but enough pilgrims for company and camraderie in the evening. Though in June-July, I think the pilgrim traffic will be much reduced from what I have experienced several times now in April-May. And it may be much much hotter, which is something to keep in mind.
Do you mean nice places to stay? Or places to visit? I think the nicest place from Salamanca northward (other than Salamanca itself) is Zamora, which is one of my favorite cities in Spain. If you love romanesque architecture (I know that not everyone does, though I can’t understand why
), this is the place for you! Also, a detour to the monastery at Granja de Moreruela, about 4 kms outside the town, is a five-star romanesque attraction. The monastery is in ruins, but the apses are just gob-smacking.They’ve done a lot of work to renovate and preserve, and it is now more visited than the first time I went there in about 2008.
The Sanabrés is so dffferent from the Salamanca to Granja de Moreruela portion, it is hilly, much more forested, lots of beautiful little spots.
