Memorial tree planting near Castrojeriz

Time of past OR future Camino
Too many and too often!
Just came across this article. On Saturday there will be a ceremony when three trees are planted on the Alto de Mostelares amongst existing tributes as memorials to three men who gave generous service to pilgrims on the Caminos.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I clearly remember this place, and spent a while wandering around looking at all the various memorials which were scattered around when you get to the top (mostly trees/bushes with plaques), the vast majority for former hospitelero's that are now walking their Caminos elsewhere🙏 Very moving and humbling and the very least recognition they deserve on a route that was made by such people as themselves❤️

Does anyone know whether anyone can place/spread ashes of deceased pilgrims here, and/or whether permission needs to be granted?
I am meeting up with several of our pilgrim group from 2014, with a portion of the ashes of one of our group who has since died -she loved Castrojeriz and environs, so we have decided to meet there and spread her ashes 'somewhere ' , not necessarily leaving a memorial plaque .

No date yet fixed, although probably around September 2024 ( our 10th Anniversary !)

Anything else that people think would help us would be great, thanks

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Given that this memorial appears to be for hospitaleros or others who served the Camino, I doubt it highly.

Use Google Search on this forum for other discussions of spreading ashes along the Camino. If I recall correctly, it summed up to, "Don't be obvious, and don't bring all of her."

I'm gonna mangle the Spanish here, but Buen Recuerdos.

I think with discretion you can put them wherever you think your friend would have liked.

I'm sorry that you have lost one of your Camino family🙏

I missed this. What a lovely idea, will definitely look out for it next time.

It is very easy to miss. It is on the right as soon as you reach the top of the hill (I think theres a bit of a shelter there on the left?), it was quite overgrown when I was there, and it's quite spread out.

Thanks for identifying the location
