Wisepilgrim app

Time of past OR future Camino
Late April
I was looking at the wisepilgrim app for the Frances route and noticed that the distances don't always add up from one side to the other.
Has anyone else noticed this? Am I being overly observant about it!! Lol!

Do you have an example? From where to where. There are sometimes 2 variations one in green one in red. These wouldn’t agree with each other.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Does it really matter? Neither St Jean nor Santiago are moving so the distance between them never changes (geologists with an obsession for tectonic drift need not respond). The distance walked by pilgrims will vary considerably depending on their navigational skills, inclination to diversion and how often they nip off track for a discrete tinkle in the bushes

No, not really. It's more for judging distance for planning out the day. I figured I was being a little too picky about it. Even as I was typing the post...!
Thanks for all the replies though!

I haven’t got a copy of Wise Pilgrim’s current iteration of the app and so I’ve no idea what the variance you’re referring to is. I do know what my daily walking limit is and so usually target something around 2/3rds of that. I like margins.
I do know that if I walk over Truleigh Hill and the Bostal to Goldings Barn and return home via Bramber and the Downsway that despite home and Bramber, like St Jean and Santiago, remaining where they should the distance between them can vary considerably depending on the size of the breakfast at Goldings and the quality of the beer at the Kings Head. 😉

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Perhaps a relevant note:

I do a lot of timed endurance walks.

The advertised distance is often 13.1 miles - approximately 21 km. But that measurement assumes that the competitor always takes the shortest distance at every point on the course and on every turn, without obstacles, water, cafés, or bathroom stops.

My Garmin distance will * always* be greater than advertised...if it isn't, I missed a turn somewhere. And my point to point distance on Camino will always differ from advertised, based on where I'm staying, how many bike routes I end up on, and how lost I get getting out of town on a dark, rainy morning 😉

Buen Camino, however far you go.

I found that distances between stages on apps were generally a 1-2 km less when compared with distance measured on my Garmin/strava. I wouldn’t get too fussed about it. It can often be a few Km from one side of town to the other.
Same for me with the Pacer app on my phone

IIRC one side depicts the distance from the beginning to Santiago, while the other side displays the remaining distance to Santiago. Of course, I could be wrong.

In any event, I am sure Michael will weigh in shortly with the correct answer.

Hope this helps.

I understand. I find the distances on all apps are different from what I actually walk from village to village. And the apod are always a longer distance. I use an app to estimate the distance I want to walk that day. Buen camino🥾

I don’t think that’s in dispute. The op is saying that the distance from start to end mileage doesn’t equal the individual town to town mileage within the app itself. So it’s a wise pilgrim app specific question rather than a one method to another question.

An example would settle all matters quickly

On a side note, are the Wise Pilgrim apps automatically updated on our devices? Should we receive a notification of this?
