We arrive into SJPP 11th September about 17.15 hoping to get pilgrims passport then hike the 10 km upto the Orrison Refugio. Would this be advisable to do this ? and will the evening light still be of a good visibility? Any help at this late stage would be welcomed.

Sunset is at 8:23! ThaJust make sure the refugio isn't fully booked. You have to prepay a deposit to make sure you have a bed.

Dave,

There are no certainties in either life or on the camino! Your ETA seems too late in the afternoon to get up to Orrison easily. In order to stay at Orrison you need to reserve. See >> http://www.refuge-orisson.com/. Do you hold a reservation ?

Perhaps you might relax a bit and plan to spend the night in SJPdP after getting your Credential at the Pilgrim Office of the Amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques, 39 rue de la Citadelle. They can also provide you with on-site lodging assistance. Their volunteers keep up to the minute lists of available space throughout the SJPdP area. The office is also a great place to meet and greet other pilgrims.

The choice is yours!

Buen Camino,

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Thank you for this advice Margaret. Our thoughts were to make the first stage easier by staying 10 km closer but this may be a little too optimistic of our time scale.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
