I land in Madrid on A Sunday afternoon and then need to make my way to Ponferrada from airport would you recommend bus or train? thank you, Aliwalks

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
The journey from Madrid to Ponferrada is long. The train is more comfortable. The ALSA bus is cheaper and runs more frequently.

Trains to Ponferrada leave from Madrid Chamartin. Chamartin is reached via Cercanias train from T4 or Metro from T1-T2-T3 or T4.

Some buses leave from Airport T4 but more frequently the bus leaves from Madrid Estacion Sur.

Estacion Sur is reached by Metro from Airport to Mendez Alvaro station. The bus station is located next to the Metro station.

If your flight arrives early enough as to take the 17:05 train, that would be my choice. Otherwise, take a bus (either from the airport or, if the schedule suits you better, from the downtown -Estación Sur de Autobuses-).

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
And if you are really lucky your bus will have a rest room. Neither my Madrid to Pamplona nor my Burgos to Madrid buses last fall had restrooms. And now that I think of it my Madrid to Toledo to Madrid didn't either - but it's a shorter ride and it was a tour bus.

Thank you

Somehow through the luck of the draw, the buses I ended up on were old, musty and reminded me of old evacuation buses. Nothing like the wonderful new ones with restrooms everyone raves about!!!
