Hola, my new future companions! I will be leaving SJPdP on August 31st, please put me on the list! I hope to meet some of you forum members along the way! Say hello when you see me in my big silly green hat! I'd love a walking buddy for the first day out too!

Hola to you too and a warm welcome! You will have no problem finding a walking buddy WanderYonder there are actually dozens of Pilgrims out there who are not even on the Forum???
You will soon buddy up with a little 'camino family'. The idea of the thread is that you can see who you may meet and make contact if you wish? Either on this thread or via Private conversation? Where are you staying your first 2 nights? Often this is the place where you will meet your future walking buddies, if you are having a communal meal it is often the custom to introduce yourself and you naturally gravitate to someone similar to you?
One of our members @Kev is trying to set up a place in St Jean where Forum members can meet at a set time everyday, watch this space for news if he has managed to do that? I admire his tenacity, he is working to make this happen.

Thank you Sarah. We are getting closer to having "real plans". We will be leaving Paris Sept 6. I'm thinking we need a day in SJPDP to get organized and registered, find hiking poles and last minute supplies, so probably start Sept 8 on the Camino? My 65th birthday is the 9th...so maybe a delay is in order? We are getting closer!! I will keep you informed of our actual start date, 8 or 9 September. Thank you for this group! I'm looking forward to meeting many of you as we walk.

Hi there,
Have you decided how you are getting from Bayonne to SJPP? I'm thinking plane from US to Paris and train to Bayonne but then i got stuck so have been looking through forums to see if there are any recommendations. Also is the Maison Erracaldia a good place to stay in SJPP? I'm thinking we'll need to recoup a day after our travel before we start so making reservations sounds like a good idea.

Welcome Celeste I will add you and your daughter straight away. I started in 2013 on the 28th of September and was amazed at how wonderful the weather was.
Hope you and your daughter have a great journey together.
You can catch a train/bus combination that leaves Bayonne at 18.10. I'm afraid I have no info on Maison Erracaldia up to now I have only stayed in the Albergue that is now called Beilari and it is very good I would definitely recommend.

My first camino I got my credential at the Pilgrim's office in St Jean, if you want to be included in the camino statistics you should visit the Office also to check on the weather and see if any other advice is being given. You are also supplied with a handy elevation map that shows the stages or etapas, I did make very great use of this mine was almost in tatters by Santiago.
However this year I have purchased a credential in advance from the forum shop and very nice it is too if a little smaller, I believe it comes from the Cathedral.
My shell is the one my son used on his camino 5 months before mine. You can get one everywhere on the camino and definitely in St Jean, they are very cheap.
Notebook I brought from home, make sure its nice and light, I did see some nice journals dumped due to being too weighty.

Hi Dave and welcome! I repeat what Mike said. Orisson has a completely different booking system to anywhere else on the camino, maybe they sit down only once a week to deal with the bookings because they are so busy with pilgrims. Make your request and if you don't hear in a week send e-mails to follow up. Also consider booking in St Jean if you plan to stay there?
59??? That's nothing last year I was walking with a 79 year old lady, you are but a youngster!

we have decided to book a seat with EXPRESS BOURRICOT right now the charge is 40euros but as time goes by and more people book for that day price will get lower. We will be picked up @ 3:45pm Sept 7th at the Bayonne train station.

Also we fly into to Paris from Florida arrive on Sept 4th and take the train to Bayonne on Sept 7th. We booked out train tickets online early it was cheaper that way.

Hi Ricay, according to the Brierley stages Burgos to Leon is doable in 8 days and its flat!!! I loved this section, many people skip part of it but not me I found it very tranquil. By my calculations you may meet some of the members on the listing starting around the 7th?

- This is only about setting a place to meet fellow pilgrims face to face and in no way implies limiting the Camino experience to just forum members)
Rather then keep spinning this around and around, I propose we set Cafe Ttipia (just over the bridge, overlooking the river) as the unofficial interim gathering spot. As meal-times vary from place to place, it seems an earlier meeting time might be more beneficial. I propose 4pm on allowing people to meet before their evening meals.
When I arrive in SJPdP, I will be better able to establish a permanent meeting spot and we can take things from there for 2016,

Just love this forum, always good to check in now and then.... There is a documentary being shown at local movie theatre (Auckland) next month about six people from all walks of life and their experiences on el camino de Santiago. Hello Sarah and all fellow pilgrims...
I will be walking for 6 days, starting from SJPdP on Thursday 17th September. I'm hoping Orisson will have a bed for me (only emailed today), otherwise I shall employ the services of Express Bouricot for the round-trip shuttle between the Virgin of Orisson and St Jean and spend the night of the 17th in St Jean.
I am a very slow walker, and have assorted foot, ankle, knee and hip problems - (sciatica be gone!) so only expect to get as far as Pamplona.
But I will be back again at the end of April 2016 for a further 6 days!
Sarah, you will probably overtake me somewhere, but I may well get to meet you in St Jean on 17th if Orisson can't squeeze me in. Please add me to the list though!

I'm hoping Orisson will have a bed for me (only emailed today), otherwise I shall employ the services of Express Bouricot for the round-trip shuttle between the Virgin of Orisson and St Jean and spend the night of the 17th in St Jean.
I am a very slow walker, and have assorted foot, ankle, knee and hip problems - (sciatica be gone!) so only expect to get as far as Pamplona.
But I will be back again at the end of April 2016 for a further 6 days!
Sarah, you will probably overtake me somewhere, but I may well get to meet you in St Jean on 17th if Orisson can't squeeze me in. Please add me to the list though!

Hi Julia ,of course I will add you to the list. Orisson are notoriously slow in their replies, I had to hassle them several times by e-mail when I wanted to change my date. But they came through, I think you would struggle to get a bed in the first 2 weeks but you may be OK on the 17th?
I will be at Gite Ultreia on the 17th, not getting in till 18.30- 19.00 via Express Bouricott, will try to meet up with you if you are not up the mountain?

My route will be: 7th September, fly from the island I live on to Glasgow, meet my friends in Glasgow and stay overnight. 8th September fly Glasgow to Paris CDG, then train from there to Bordeaux and stay overnight in Bordeaux. 9th September train from Bordeaux to Bayonne, then train and bus to SJPP (don't know why we have to bus from Cambo les bains to SJPP).
We finally arrive SJPP on the 9th September and will start walking on the 10th.
This will be my 2nd Camino Frances, the first one was in 2013. This time I will be arriving and walking with my lovely friends Peter and Jane, it will be their first camino.
Hope to see some of you there!

Hi Yvonne, Long journey for you! I guess I take for granted that I can leave home, go to London, fly to Biarritz and be in St Jean in just over 12 hours? I feel lucky.
Have added you to our list, it's great that your friends have an experienced Pilgrim with them, though my son didn't travel with me he did give me lots of advice.
I think you will be taking the bus as the train lines are under repair, for a while the whole Bayonne section to St Jean was replaced by bus but at least some of it is back on track.
Hope you and your friends have a wonderful trip.

I'm walking my first Camino this autumn. I leave from Denmark the 24.8 and will be landing to Biarriz the same evening (around 18). I'm also trying to get to SJPP the same evening so I could start walking already the 25.8.
Hopefully meeting some of you on the way and if you are arriving to Biarriz around the same day maybe we could share a cab to SJPP.
I'm very axious and exited to go walking. One more month and I'll be walking...

Maybe a little nearer the time? I had no problem on landing at Biarritz pretty easy to spot the pilgrims with the backpacks

EXPRESS BOURICOTT is a van, what we in England call a minibus with a driver. Book online Caroline is very helpful.
