I was wild camping down on the seashore the other night, grilling sausages on the campfire, when a young backpacker came scrambling over the rocks.

His name is Josh Hicks and he comes, originally, from Mount Compass near Adelaide in South Australia and he is walking around the British mainland coastline, about 6000 miles,to raise money for two children's cancer charities.

He started at Land's End 2 months ago and has,so far, covered 1600 miles walking about 27 miles (40+km) a day up the west coast.

He's hoping to raise,at least,£5000 for Children with Cancer UK and Aus$10000 for CanTeen Australia. He has a facebook page called She's a fair hike.

If any of you live on or near his route you may like to look out for him.As he is camping he would probably appreciate a real bed occasionally.

Strangely,I thought, for an Australian he declined my offer of sausages and tucked into something in a packet from Uncle Ben before heading on his way.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Can you put in links to his websites/pages please? SY

I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
If you’re walking the Camino Portugues right now I’d recommend you avoid the complementario route into Pontevedra. While it is quiet and green and follows the river, it’s also a muddy mess. I...
