another option to reach Sobrado dos Monxes

when I walked CP last year, I wanted to join CF as late as possible, but still walk as much of CP, so I devised a route linking Vilouriz and Sobrado dos Monxes. what I walked was different from the plans, involving more tarmac, because of the three local paths in the area that I incorporated, I decided to bypass the first going up a hill to a chapel, and after a very overgrown brumbly section of the third decided to skip it and instead stick to the road (which actually became gravel soon). as a reward, I passed a lovely waterfall, a dolmen and several huge mysterios boulders.

in all, it was a fairly long day of 36km, but deducing all the there-and-back overgrown paths, and measuring from the albergue of As Seixas, it comes down to 27km, which is doable.

there was only one fountain en route, at the rest area after O Hospital das Seixas, and no bars or other services. I asked locals for water and had no problems, although some tried to persuade me to stick to the main roads.

with more local knowledge and the cleaning of the waymarked local paths, the distance might be reduced a bit more still and even more tarmac avoided.

I stayed at the CSJ albergue in Miraz on St James Day in 2010. The hospitaleros organised a meal on the patio of the pre redevelopment building for the 30 odd peregrinos ( 12 more than capacity) who had arrived that day. The two Irish girls next to me had walked from the Primitivo, there was a waymarked route from Friol way back then, I'm not sure what's happened to it over the years. But if you had an extra day or two it would make a perfect detour.

The route to Friol still exists. It starts in Lugo and is waymarked with green (and yellow) arrows. There might be two versions of it, one passing close by Santalla de Boveda and the other going more to the north.

Other pilgrims have linked Ferreira and Sobrado.
