Red pins

I'm wondering what the red pins signify that keep appearing in the "replies" column. They don't seem to be pertinent to threads to which I have contributed. Just wondering.

The "pins" signify that those threads have been "pinned" to the top of the thread listing by the staff. They normally contain information that is deemed important to all members.
This prevents them from slipping down and becoming buried beneath more current posts.

They are usually referred to as "stickies"... (they are "stuck" to the top)
But.."pinned" is also used to describe them.
