Time of past OR future Camino
may/june (2018)
Just wanted to say thanks everyone on this forum and Ivar who initiated it. It’s been a wonderful preparation. I’m sitting in Santiago right now having just finished my first Camino... and I loved it! I’m still in shock I actually walked every step from SJPdP in 36 consecutive days. Today is my first rest day! I’m so grateful for all the helpful tips and comments on this forum. So much experience to take back home...but I will always remember my Camino as one of joy, dreams, friendship and gratitude. Buen life everyone

Welcome (?!) back to the world, and congratulations on finishing your Camino.

May I make a suggestion? If you have found the resources of this forum useful, why not pay it forward? There are pilgrims-to-be that would benefit from your new found wisdom, and you might find that helping others out on the forum keeps you connected to your newly minted Camino self as well. This forum is only as good as its contributors........

Thanks everyone. Excuse my ignorance but does ‘pay it forward’ mean something like the ‘golden rule’ of doing to others what we like to have done to us? Or is it some kind of literal payment?

Sorry for the confusion Bridget, I assume too much.

Its a term first used in a novel by Catherine Hyde, but popularized in a movie by the same name. To "Pay it Forward" is to repay someone's act of kindness to you, by performing a random act of kindness for some unrelated third party. Instead of "Paying Back" the person who was good to you but doesn't need your help, you "Pay Forward" to someone who can really use your help. Its just a play on words.

No money involved here, its more of a golden rule thing. The veterans on this forum who shared their wisdom and helped you prepare for your Camino, don't need your help. The people who read this forum for the first time today, and are confused, puzzled, or frightened, are the ones that need your act of kindness. Repay your debt to those who helped you, by helping those who need it.

All that said (and it sounds so serious when written down!), you don't owe anyone anything. Its just a suggestion.

Hi Bridget,
What a great surprise to see you on the forum. It was a pleasure to meet you on the Camino with Steve (the Wichita Linesman as I called him) and Sarah and see you very briefly in Santiago.
Life is short and the time available to consolidate friendships on the Camino is even shorter.
Congratulations on reaching Santiago and thank you for the support and friendship you gave to others along the way.
Keep dreaming and may they all come true.
Alistair

Congratulations! I remember my first Camino in 2015. I had some trials but it was amazing. I never thought I’d do it again, but I’m starting in SJPdP with my husband on Sept. 7 (his first was in 2016).

Thanks Alistair. Lovely to meet you too...and thanks for the sharing and laughs in our group dinner near the river in whatever town we were in. Now I’ve started to connect forum names with actual people I’ve met

All the best to you with your search for a cure for your daughter and for people in the future with the same condition.
