    Post-camino fitness

Just wondering what your elevation is at home? If it is much higher than the Camino, perhaps you have lost your acclimatization to the higher altitude?

Looking for a weight loss accountability partner who has walked the Camino

Nivala, your weight loss plans sounds great! Losing weight slowly and with lifestyle changes and things you can sustain sounds perfect. And it's lovely to take inspiration from the camino. Almost exactly one year ago it hit me that I couldn't keep gaining weight and had to do something. I've...

    Weighing Travel Insurance Options

For US travelers on Medicare, the Medigap plans cover some medical expenses while traveling (80% for emergencies, max $50,000, 60 day max). From https://www.aarp.org/health/medicare-qa-tool/does-medicare-cover-me-outside-the-us/ These Medigap plans cover foreign travel emergency care that...

LIVE from the Camino What CAN’T go in the dryer when treating for bed bugs?

Right. When I melted them I wasn't trying to treat for bedbugs. Just drying my clothes. The first time I didn't realize they couldn't hold up to the heat. The second time I was plain old careless: got distracted and didn't realize I'd set the dryer for such a hot setting.

LIVE from the Camino What CAN’T go in the dryer when treating for bed bugs?

I like to use FoxRiver Coolmax liner socks. These: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000V5CJ08/?tag=casaivar02-20 They really hold up well and are comfortable, but I'd definitely not put them in a hot dryer to get rid of bedbugs. Twice, on two different caminos, I put them into a too-hot dryer and...

    Hospital Bill from Spanish Hospital

In 2000 I took a bad fall in Italy and hit my head badly. Decided to go to the ER. A doctor checked me out with x-ray and such. Told me I was fine. (Gotta say the doctor was so handsome -- like someone straight out of the movies. :) ) As we were leaving we asked "how much do we owe?" They...

    Should I pack backup eyeglasses?

Until I read all your responses I don't think I'd realized how many ways glasses could be broken or messed up or lost. I've worn glasses since I was 8 years old and think I only broke one pair -- on the school playground when a ball hit me square in the face. So ... the reality of breaking a...

    Should I pack backup eyeglasses?

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all this feedback. You have convinced me to take a backup pair yet again. It's so easy to start obsessing over every ounce.

    Should I pack backup eyeglasses?

I'm pretty helpless without glasses and I've always brought an extra pair of eyeglasses as a backup in case my main pair are lost or broken. But, I'm re-considering for our upcoming camino (leaving in a week!) because over many caminos and other trips I've never needed the backup and I am also...

Foot Pain - sharp pain on top of foot

After we finished that camino we spent a week in Madrid which involved a lot of tourist walking. By the end of that week my foot was pretty swollen and bruised looking. It hurt but wasn't excruciating. I wasn't sure what was going on but as soon as I got home to the States I went to a doctor...

Foot Pain - sharp pain on top of foot

I started having sharp pain top of foot day before arriving in Santiago. It turned out to be a stress fracture.
