Many bad stories begin with Ï left the Albergue before dawn and I missed an arrow ...¨ I prefer leaving shortly after dawn (1/2 hr before sunrise) so I have enough light to see but still get to see the wonderful sunrises.
Everyone who knows me says I'm a fast walker. This isn't because I am racing, it's because that is my natural speed. When I walk I listen to my body and walk the speed that is most comfortable for me. I have tried to walk slow, usually when I'm walking with someone slower than me, and...
Elaine: I'm sure it can be done. Start slow. Listen to your body. Listen some more. Listen a third time and do what it tells you. While I think 6 to 12 months of training would be helpful, if you listen to your body and take your time you can do it.
Gene_781: Thanks for the advice. I am currently planning to mail my poles and pocket knife back home when I get to SDC thus avoiding carrying them on the plane on the way home.
Thank you Margaret Meredith! :D That is a good idea. Of course, with the changes to the TSA regulations that seem to be coming, my original question may have become moot. :)
Does anyone know the walking distance between San Juan de la Pena monastery and Santa Cilia? Is it easy to find your way from the monastery to Santa Celia?
Thanks in advance! Burn Camino!
I was told by a doctor in Fromista that I should not put compeed on a blister. She said compeed was only for hotspots to prevent the formation of a blister. She told me to keep the popped blistwee clean and to cover with gauze when I was walking and keeping it uncovered when I wasn't so it...
I learned that the change we hope for does not happen while you are on the Camino but happens after we have returned home and have had time to contemplate what we have experienced and achieved.
I will be arriving in Oloron Sainte Marie on the 6th of September. I will be flying from the US to Toulouse via Madrid and then training it to Oloron. I want to carry my backpack on the plane/train (I had a bad experience with lost luggage on my first camino). I am trying to figure out how to...
I had similar moments as the other posters. Here are a few more in no particular order:
(1) Watching the Korean school kids entertain the pilgrims in Puente La Reina.
(2) Granon where I found the pilgrim experience I'd hoped for.
(3) Arriving in Burgos and reuniting with my pilgrim family.
(4)...
The only communal shower I experienced was at the municipal albergue in Zubiri. Fortunately for me I was the first man to get there and I got a private, but quick, shower.
I went with a detailed plan that was promptly thrown out after the third day. My plan was too conservative and I didn't take into account the desire to stay with my new found Camino family. I talked with the people I met in the albergue each night and made a plan for the next day based on...
Not sure this was exactly strange but it was part of my Camino.
My Camino started a little rough when the airlines (American/Iberia) lost my bag. This was followed by my missing the Madrid to Hendaye train the same day. Oh, and the work slowdown that cancelled several trains leaving Hendaye...
I suggest, when you first approach someone on the Camino, to say hello in your most comfortable language. If they do not respond then I would try English since it appears you know some English and many people on the Camino speak it. If they do not understand either then a nice big smile will...
I'm no expert but I have heard that with a properly adjusted pack the weight should rest predominately on the hips/waist. The shoulder straps should carry very little weight - their main function is to keep the pack from flopping backwards. If you had sore shoulders the next day it may be that...
