Completing pilgrimages in a “repetitive manner” since 2016 has learned me that there is a period of adaptation. For me that has ranged from 11 to 17 days. Then there is a change mentally and physically. I strongly recommend to walk 14 days plus to fully take ownership of the transformative...
Winter route definately more gentle physically…..but visually…?…Napoleon is it Talk about kicking off a Camino with a bang. Just look at the scenery last July🙏🏼
((Note that I would choose Valcarlos in uncertain weather.))
Nooooo…quite the contrary….it will bee the best summer in years….😊
Check out possibility to combine San Fermin festival in Pamplona and the weekend of St. James day in Santiago de Compostela…it can bee done….booking one day in advance as a precaution…
Ultreia😁!
Easy
You…..fit and starting early with good weather….?? ….decide to continue or not around 11 km’s and some height meters….👍
You…not fit and wanting a sensible beginning of a long adventure….decide in advance to enjoy a early days end with new friends around 11 km’s…

Epilog from returning after SJPP-SdC now in July
On my flight home now. Time for some final thoughts of my Camino Frances from SJPP and tips for those who awaits.
My pilgremage has this time around confirmed and reassured me that the magic is still there and it’s strong.

Good question ?
How to predict August/September is tough as many pilgrims like myself has awaited going and is ready in early autumn.
I came in on the 25th of July on foot from Frances aswell so this is my general take on it;
Book ahead of possible
At least check availability in beforehand...
Came in on the very early morning of St James day. Tired and happy. Here is my top tips;
Early mornings and half the days stage by 11-1200 for lower second part paces
Protect your head from heatstroke with something you can drown in a fuente
Book ahead if possible or at least call to check...
Spain officially gears up for opening up ASAP.
BUT
Two factor’s of importance;
- Use of EU mandatory vaccination pass on flights and entry?
- Uncertain level of control on
aggressive mutations??
Personally and within my network we want to use any «window of opportunity” this spring/autumn...
Imagine having so many factors operating day to day when on a camino;
Level of restitution
Grade of fitness
How many kilos in the mochachilla
Metabolism
Blood sugar level
Type of footwear
Personality
Stamina
Natural pace
Experience level
Influx of weather type
...and so on...
.....and so...
One thesis I think is far more describing than distance is.....hours....
So......if one look into how many hours underway before looking into a place to sleep......I think that takes the physical ability aspect out of it.....
Why is it so....?
Say someone states walking 4 hours a day and the...
In May/June 2016 I walked upon a 25-30 year old guy walking Frances with a handicap.
From memory he took around 10 steps supported by two crutches before pausing for a second.
I was blown away by his willpower and stamina.
From what I remember he successfully arrived Santiago and there was a...
Ripple effect allready imminent......no dip in numbers of peregrinos on Ingles after wholy week last spring ....flow just kept on and reasoning among locals was ripple from those who decided not to go Porto/Sarria on...
My reflection is that «crowding» will support the alternative Caminos in a...
