It was nice to see the photo of the white asparagus. My husband and I walked the Camino in August 2017. I never had white asparagus before. But there it was always in our salads. So this brought back many good memories.
I am returning this year for 2 weeks in August to walk sections I skipped last year. I won’t be able to walk all of them but that will be a good reason to return again. Starting in Estella to Burgos then try to get transportation to Castrojeriz so I can walk to Formista. Well that’s my plan.
My husband and I started in Pamplona last year and skipped many sections due to knee problems and my allergic reaction problem. We made it to Santiago though and walked the 100 km from Sarria. I had mixed feelings about going back and walking the sections we skipped due to my persistent allergy...
Last year we arrived around 10 and the ALSA tickets were sold out until evening. Fortunately, we were able to buy tickets on a different bus line called PLM. It stopped in Logrono for sure I’m not sure about Leon.
In August I used a sleep sac but this time of year you will want something warmer. Alburgues basically give you a bed with a mattress, some might rent sheets. I don’t think I would use their blankets because of my allergic reactions to beg bugs. Can you find a lighter sleeping bag or eliminate...
By the way, my husband had a few bites but nothing like me. The night I got all the bites, he was on the top bunk. Perhaps the bugs were satisfied with me and didn’t need to go further. If I go this summer, I plan to bring a large black garbage bag and keep my backpack in it when in the room.
I had an extreme reaction to bed bug bites last year. I was bitten it seemed from head to toe the second night on the camino and had to eventually see a doctor and had to cut our trip short as a result. If I knew then what I know now I would have taken more precautions. I’m still being...
I'm back in the states and I'm already thinking about returning to walk all the sections we skipped on our first pilgrimage. I'm the one who had the extreme reaction to the bed bug bites. I ended up at the emergency room in Dublin between flights because my throat started closing up. The two...
My husband and I just finished the Camino. We used bookings.com when we wanted a private room although you can also call most Albergues directly. We/I often wanted to give my fellow peregrinos a break from my husband's snoring. Download the app it is now my favorite.
Very grateful for health center in Arzua. In and out in less than two hours. Got treated for severe allergic reaction to something (all my bites???)--eyes almost swollen shut. Got meds around the corner. Then witnessed epic hailstorm. Tomorrow Santiago!!!!!!
Thank you for the suggestions. Is it possible to get permethrin along the Camino? How can I ask for it? I'm using DEET now and washing clothes either by hand or in machines. I really am starting to think it's my O- blood they love!!
I posted about 15 days ago about beg bug bites. I'm within 60 km of Santiago and a little disheartened. I still am getting bitten plus I've had bites turn to blisters, swollen face/lips and now swollen left eye moving to right eye. My husband will sleep in same bed and not get anything. I spray...
I started a conversation about all the bites I got. Some of my bites are blistering. Does anyone know what might be causing them and the treatment. I seem to be a bug magnet. My husband in the same room is getting nothing.
I didn't know all the correct procedures about informing albergue. I tried calling today but my call keeps dropping. It was Padres Reparadores where I felt bitten. I was in room 5 first lower bed on left. If someone can please let them know. I'll try to call again.
