    Voie du Baztan

Hi, New pilgrim from Belgium. My very first camino starts in Bayonne on May 15th, going to Pamplona on the Baztan, then switch to Frances to complete my journey in Santiago. Very excited to start, but also a bit scared. Advice for apps/points of attention on Baztan are welcome.

Camino Baztan: Is a credencial available in Bayonne?

I don't recall reading anywhere that this camino has a credencial. If so, please advise where to get one.

Has anyone walked the Baztan in a group?

A bunch of us were in Navarra last May and we spent a day in the Baztan Valley. We were in awe at its beauty, and impressed when the locals told us that this was the first path over the Pyrenees 1000 years ago. True or not, it sounded cool for those of us who have walked over the Pyrenees...

Slow walkers on the Baztan in May 2024

Thank you to @Bad Pilgrim for his recent report on his walk on the Baztan and to @Pelerina for her comments. Together with my darling, we intend walking the Baztan in May 2024. My initial plan, as we're slow walkers and distance challenged ☺️ is as follows: Saturday 18 May Bayonne to Ustaritz...

    Baztan advice

Hi there, I'm starting my two week Camino in Bayonne in a couple of weeks walking the Baztan then on to Burgos. In over thinking mode now with regards to footwear! On my previous Camino's I have been blighted by blisters and am trying to find footwear which is appropriate and comfortable...

Hiking the Baztan, Olvidado, and Invierno routes in Spain

Has anyone walked the Baztan to Pamplona then continued from there onto the Olvidado before doing the Invierno? Looking at planning this route for 2024. If so, would May be the best time to start?

    Camino Baztan

Looking for information about water along the Camino Baztan. I can find much about food and lodging, but no one mentions water. Must I plan to carry water for days, or are there places to re-supply?

    Christmas on the Baztan/CF

I will commence the Baztan on December 21st and head for Pamplona - I’m prepared for the problems I could face with this plan but look forward to the challenge(s) and a bus to the CF is a nice fallback should any problems be too troublesome - is anybody else considering this route in December...

    Portillo on the C Baztan

Michael Portillo’s new series ‘Pyrenees’ has him on part of the Baztan in episode 1. Available on ‘catch up’ in the UK. Unusually, he’s not on a train. (For the non-Brits; Michael Portillo is an ex politician and a virtual institution in the UK. Or should be in an institution, depending on...

Baztan Albergue Accommodation - late April 2023.

I am planning to walk the Camino Baztan in the last week of April 23 (then along the Frances to the Invierno). I prefer Albergue accommodation if at all possible. Is late-April too early for the Baztan albergues to be open? Would a delay into early-May be better? Thanks and Cooee.

Camino 2023 - Baztan and beyond

...to have finished by mid October at the latest. I tend to walk 15-20 mile days when trekking. My plan is to walk the following routes. Baztan, Viejo, Olvidado, Salvador, Primitivo, Frances and Muxia. So I have a single question (so far) and probably more to come in the next 14 months. Is...

Anybody walking the Camino Baztan in March 2022?

I'm looking for someone walking the Camino Baztan in March or somebody local to the area who has walked it in the past. We are currently making a travelogue series for Channel 5 with Michael Portillo and he would love to meet somebody who has walked or is walking that section (perhaps on their...

    Baztán in mid May 2022?

...flying if possible.) A few weeks later - mid May - we will be back in south west France - and think we have just enough time to walk Camino Baztan from Bayonne to Pamplona. Some accommodation gaps on the Baztan at the moment, but by next Spring albergues and others may have opened again...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Camino Baztan and Aragonés in September 2021???

...still a bit early to be asking, but wondering what folks have any insight as to how likely or unlikely it may be that albergues on the Camino Baztan (Bayonne to Pamplona) and the Camino Aragonés (Puenta la Reina) will be open for business in September, 2021. Would especially like to hear from...

Camino Baztan still possible this September?

...back from Santiago I am sure I could rearrange so I am seriously considering whether I might still travel and attempt to complete the Camino Baztan over a period of 6/7 days. Reading a recent thread,it appears that the Albergues are all closed so my question is notwithstanding any more dismal...

    Baztan Valley albergues are closed

A couple of weeks ago I called before hand to various pilgrim albuergues, such as the one in Elizondo, and they all said that they would be closed for the year. The association of friends of the camino de Santiago en Baztan confirmed this.

    Baztán Guide

...Kelly’s Guide. I think it takes the prize for the lightest guide I have held in my hands. I look forward to referring to it, in tandem with other threads, filled with advice and suggestions from recent Baztan Pilgrims. Thanks in advance, Gerard. Not sure at all, but perhaps this coming August.
