Did you get yourself a pint of beer? Had more than one. Any excuse for a beer. :D Heading to the airport tomorrow morning to start my Camino. At least the weather is supposed to be good this coming week in the Pyrenees. Exciting times!

    Nearly there!!

Just one other thing Vagabondette which you may find helpful to raise funds, I set up a page on mycharity.ie (Dave Johnson's Camino walk) for anyone wishing to donate directly without me having to collect the funds personally & I found that to be very successful with hundreds of Euro being...

    Nearly there!!

Many thanks. May I wish you well in raising funds for your very worthwhile cause too. Although times are tough for many people in the global economic climate I found that so many happily donated as they realised the effort I would be making. As I mentioned it really has motivated me too, to try...

    Nearly there!!

This coming monday I fly to Biarritz, head down to St. Jean Pied de Port & start hiking the 800km to Santiago much the same as millions of folk before me. The initial feelings of excitement have been tempered a little with feelings of nervousness but I'm still very much looking forward to my...

    Starting next week

Hi Karl, I'm the same as you starting the camino next week. Will be arriving in St. Jean on the 26th & either heading off straight away or staying overnight & heading up the mountains on the 27th. Like you, I'm trying to think of anything I might have forgotten but hopefully having made several...

    credencial stamps

I just went to the Guinness Storehouse this week & got my pilgrim's passport stamped. They don't ask any questions. Just show them your passport at the reception desk in the Storehouse & they'll stamp it for you. No problem. Enjoy your visit to Dublin & good luck in the marathon.

Cheers. Sounds like the start of a pub crawl. Guinness brewery followed by a couple of pints in Glasnevin.

That's handy to know. Thanks. I'll pop down tomorrow & get the stamp. I got my pilgrim's passport from the church next door. Only 12 days until I start my hike.

    Huntto/Orisson

Lol. Definitely not a lady to mess with by the sounds of it. I'm English but have lived here in The Emerald Isle for many years now so I'm used to the Irish humour. All good fun. Hopefully catch up with you in Huntto in a couple of weeks or somewhere along the way. Best wishes, Dave

    Huntto/Orisson

Ok well after a short enough flight from Dublin I've a taxi booked from the airport to take me to St. Jean. Should get there about 5pm. After a visit to the pilgrim's office I think I might start walking upto Huntto straight away. A 5km walk to Huntto followed by a night's rest & then 20km to...

    Huntto/Orisson

Hi there, I'm in almost exactly the same position as you. Me & my friend will be arriving in St. Jean on Monday, March 26th. I emailed Orisson to ask if they had availability however I received a reply from the owner who said he didn't know if he'd be open & it depended on the weather & I should...

    St. Jean & Orisson accommodation.

Thanks for your suggestions. Rest assured I wouldn't take any chances crossing the mountains if the weather is bad. Hopefully by the end of March it'll be ok but I'll check it out when I get there in 3 weeks time.

    St. Jean & Orisson accommodation.

Hi there. In just over 3 weeks time I'll be starting my Camino & very much looking forward to the experience although it is with a feeling of a wee bit of trepidation mixed in. I'll be arriving at Biarritz airport on Moday 26th Marcg & have booked the Express Bourricot taxi service to take me...

Did movie: "The Way" motivate you...

Although I'm ashamed to admit it I'd never even heard of the Camino until about 6 weeks ago. A couple of days after Christmas I happened to watch "The Way" by accident. I really enjoyed the film & thought I had to do it. Seldom have I felt so inspired. I'm not a religious person but I knew it...

Mid March 2012 for a newbie

Hi there, I will be starting the Camino from St. Jean Pied de Port on March 27th & I can't wait. I don't think I've ever looked forward to a trip as much as this one & yet this one promises to be a stern mental & physical test. Definitely not like a typical holiday I'd normally go on. To my...

How do I get to St Jean?

Hi Chriostoir, If it's any help last week I booked a flight from Dublin to Biarritz for Monday 26th March & it cost less than €30 inc all taxes (or €45 with a checked in bag) one way arriving in Biarritz approximately 3.30pm. From there, as mentioned by previous posters you can take a bus from...

    Happy New Year from Ireland.

Hi Lydia, Thanks for your kind words. If you're starting off six weeks behind me you'll probably catch me up after the first climb. :D I booked my flight with Ryanair. Leaving Dublin on Monday 26th March. The fare was €14.99 one way or roughly €30 including all the taxes & add on charges. It...

    Happy New Year from Ireland.

Hi all, I live in Dublin, Ireland & am planning to trudge the Camino from St. Jean starting at the end of March & hoping to arrive in Santiago de Compostela a month later. To be honest I've never done anything like this before so it's going to be a challenge, one I face with not a little...
