    First Camino, lots of questions

I actually know the guy who designed the Osprey packs and I complained directly to him about how difficult it is to remove and replace water bottles from the side pockets. To no avail. He recommended the water bladder inside the pack, which I don't like for a number of reasons. I rigged up a...

Camino Portugues 2025 - is April a good time?

I'm starting a week before you and will bring what I've used on other caminos; a lightweight rectangular liner to use like sheets and a down quilt. This combo has covered all I've encountered in the past. If it gets too cold, I wear my base layer long underwear and socks.

    Fly fishing

I really wished I had my tankara rod with me when I was on the Frances. Crossed so many rivers with huge trout! Only saw a few locals fishing.

1st pilgrimage, 65, female, solo, asking for advice

I have the Joos book translated into English. I really like it. Great advice! I often got asked where and when I started and I could see their minds calculating how "fast" I am. When they say, "Oh you're really taking your time" (meaning: You're slow or don't walk *far enough* every day), I...

Portuguese Camino Coastal Route This May!

Rather than joining a tour, I urge you to consider walking the camino solo. There will be plenty of people to meet up with along the way. This would be more flexible, depending on your interests and pace.

1st pilgrimage, 65, female, solo, asking for advice

To wear, all I take is: mid weight long underwear (long sleeve top and pants) 2 tee shirts 1 pair shorts (all I ever wear, and over long underwear bottoms if it's cold) 1 lightweight dress (for walking around town while my walking clothes are on the line) down jacket (packs down to practically...

1st pilgrimage, 65, female, solo, asking for advice

I've walked the CF in the fall and in the spring during my 60s. I MUCH prefer the spring (though everybody here doesn't agree with me). In the spring the fields are green with riots of flowers, including lots of red poppies. Everything is sprouting and growing. The Storks are also on their...

Pre-Pilgrim times - photos of when you were young?

See, the original roots of your life! When I was in the 5th grade, we had to do a big report on a topic, not of our choosing. I picked out of a hat the subject, "Early Roads." Which sounded like the most boring topic imaginable at the time. Then I started to read about it... The foot trails...

Omicron be damned, I bought flights to Portugal today

Starting SJPDP Friday the 13th of August 2021

I am an avid barefoot walker at home, but not on the Camino. I watched a few barefoot walkers, hopping from grassy spot to grassy spot beside the trail. They did not seem to be enjoying the walk, but you may be different! Let us know.
