I also did some rain walking on the Camino and had wet feet. I second all of the advice so far. Merino socks really help with less blistering and warmth. I used the lambswool for my feet, a pesky shoulder strap, and gave some to others for all kinds of padding...I DO recommend it!
I also get vertigo and the things that help me are: taking an antihistamine IMMEDIATELY. Some people take Benadryl but that makes me too sleepy, so I take Zyrtec, Allegra or Claritin. I use two poles because I never know which way will be problematic on any given day. My issues are worse...
I found that generally in Europe, you find either plain old Tampax, or OB or similar WITHOUT applicators. So if those aren't your preference, you may want to bring some.
Just two weeks ago I purchased a really nice zip up duffle 40-60L for $15 Euro at a Decathlon in Barcelona for just this purpose....you might try there in Santiago. As these things go, I dont know whether that is inexpensive, but it is better than others I have bought, both in price and quality.
I feel your pain! I carried the womens Osprey Kyte 46 liters, extra small torso length on my Camino. I'm 5'2", and at that time was about 118 pounds. It was a bit larger than needed liter-wise, but you just don't pack it completely full and use the compression straps. I would probably have...
The other cool thing about this would be that if you have any small items (this is more of a women's hint) such as bandana's, scarves, undies, etc., you could use the bag also to throw in a washer if you come across one, particularly if you are sharing a load with someone else.
Yes the Tevas are heavier, but at the end of a day of walking, I need something more supportive than a pair of flip flops or crocs; plus, if it's warm or I need to air out blisters, I can walk in Tevas for awhile.
The duct tape helps with that, or if you are female, you can tuck it under a bra strap under your shirt if the pressure point is in the right spot. I have sensitive ankle bones that stick out on the inside of my foot, and my higher topped OBOZ rubbed on those unless I had exactly the correct...
I have never used Compeed, but the Hiker's Lambswool helped with shoe hotspots, places that rubbed from my pack straps, and I shared some with others as well. I liked it because you could use a lot, or a little, and mold it into the type of padding that you needed at the time. I definitely...
I used the Osprey Kestrel 44 (xs torso length-I'm5"2") on the Camino, and liked it very much. It opens at the top, covered by a small zippered pouch which I wished were removable to wear as a belt pack (but wasn't removable). It also zipped open on the size, and had a bottom compartment that...
I preferred the Give and Go hip huggers, and even the briefs aren't really granny panties. I have to warn you, though, the newer design with the softer stretch lace around the legs and top doesn't stay in place as well as the older variety. It also runs one size larger. However, I also think...
This is a great post! FYI, I have some older Old Navy yoga type bottoms....and they are comfy, AND have worn super well. You are right....they were a whole lot cheaper than the Athleta, Lulu, well, you name it....other ones. AND they are made for actual women, not Barbie dolls. Go! Be comfy...
I, too, preferred the Exofficio panties (even over my tried/trusted Ibex wool bikinis - longer dry time). So much so, that now at home, I won't wear anything else. I have all of the sites that carry them on permanent "sale alert"!! They do stay nice longer if you don't put them in the dryer.
I think you look really well prepared. I DID use and liked my stretchy clothesline, and would string it from the head of my bed to the foot, and then hang my towel, or a scarf over it for a bit of privacy, especially helpful the night I was right next to the door in/out to the bathroom. I took...
Agree with you on the Bra llelujahs by Spanx. Not cheap, but dry as fast as a sports bra...come underwire or not. Recommend the front closure, because this means that the back is a straight (wide) across piece of soft fabric, with no areas to rub. The straps also are wide and soft. Only...
Oh, and PS....the strings allow the bags to be hung from a hook, towel bar, shower bar, or bunk slat for keeping stuff close at hand, like for instance glasses or contact lenses.
My preference was a set of three differently colored "stuff sacks" with drawstring tops and toggles that I got at REI. I found that I could remember what was in what colored bag, and that helped alot when I was in a hurry, or trying to find something in dim light. The bags are nylon, so I...
I would second the comments about looking into some sort of ankle brace, and definitely wearing what is broken in already. The other thing you might check out is Youtube for videos on taping your ankles with KT Tape. It's a therapy tape, available here in the US in my supermarket near the...
