A big event for youngsters will take place in Santiago de Compostela this summer. Celebrating the "Holy Year of Compostela 2010", the archdiocese has organized a Pilgrimage and Youth Meeting for 5-8 August.
During the mornings Spanish bishops will offer catechesis sessions all over town, while the afternoons are dedicated to workshops and the evenings for cultural activities and prayer vigils. This year's meeting will end on a note that looks ahead to World Youth day.
The prayer vigil on August 7th will be held around the World Youth Day Cross which during those days will be visiting the archdiocese of Compostela. The next morning, at the concluding mass, the World Youth Day Cross and Icon will be handed over to young people from the neighboring country of Portugal, where the cross will travel next.
The organizers are hoping for the participation of up to 15,000 young people. All the different youth ministries in Spain will be represented and there will also be youth groups from other European countries.
