@Larky1888 and Buen Camino - how many days to Bilbao? I think we took 9 days. It depends on whether you intend to say the first night in Passajes San Juan or go straight to San Sebastien, and whether you will only stay in albergues or are prepared to use commercial accommodation which gives a bit more choice and the possibility of shorter days. Its a pretty strenuous route.
I definitely recommend the "alpista" route from Irun.

The first time I walked CDN was 11 months after a full hip replacement. At that time I had serious doubts about being able to complete it, but I did- and may I point out that I was much older than you are now
So, being 45 and in good shape my recommendation is take it all in and enjoy the journey!! You can do it!
