27 days walking - Logrono or Pamplona?

Hi,

We're off on the camino soon, but still haven't figured out where to start walking from! We have 27 days to walk (not incl flying/ spending a few days at Santiago) and had originally planned to start at Pamplona, but now are wondering whether that would be too much for the time we have - would Logrono or somewhere else be better?

I would recommend you start in Logrono. That leaves an average of 23.5km a day to Santiago. Starting in Pamplona would add another 110km. Logrono would also allow more flexibility if you have a minor injury or want to stop somwhere along the way.

It also depends on your age and fitness.
In 2002 (when I was a spritely 55 year-old) I walked from Roncesvalles to Santiago (my walking buddy was 74 years old) in 27 days. It meant averaging 28km a day but it actually worked out a little differently. Some days we walked further and other days much less.

EDIT:
The first week from Roncesvalles to Logroño is one of the most beautiful. It would be a pity to miss it!

Logrono to Santiago in 27 days is a nice relaxed pace.
I walked SJPP to Santiago in 28 days but was quite manic the whole way.
Subsequently, I've walked the VdlP and found 25 kms per day sufficient and allows more time for peaceful contemplation and sightseeing.

Thank you all for your help - In case anyone else has a similar question, we decided to walk from Estella to Santiago in the end, and it took us about 23 days (there were a few 40km days though )... Buen Camino!
