OMG, I was just talking to my partner (we are both museum-lovers): "When we go to another camino, should we land in Madrid? What haven't we visited there yet?"

Wow, thanks for this info. It looks like they are ready to go. I will miss it by a few weeks!

I was interested to see that construction was halted due to the discovery of remains of the 9th century moorish walls. Visitors will be able to see those walls on the ground floor of the museum.

Located right near the Royal Palace and the Cathedral. I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of either of those places, but this new addition to the area looks pretty great.

The museum is run by Patrimonio Nacional and has brought together pieces from many royal sites. There’s lots of info about the collection, the project, and a gallery of photos of major pieces on display:
