Castles in Galicia

I was hunting for information about Verín on the Vdlp alternative route, and found this website with information about a lot of castles in Galicia.

Some of them look pretty amazing.

I know that people frequently ask about how to spend a few “tourist days” after completing the Camino, and for my money, renting a car to explore out of the way places in Galicia would be very high on that list!

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Not to be outdone, Grado, Villavieja and Monforte de Lemos. I confess, I aalso chickened out of the climb to Torrenovaes.

I have twice visited the Castillo de Pembre, too. It is a cab ride from either Palas del Rey or Melide. It wasn't listed in the article, but very cool and it survived the peasant uprisings when others did not because the Lord paid off the ring leaders.

It is built on a sacred pre-Christian site and the chapel predates the Castle by several centuries. No mortar. The stones were cut to fit together. Lots of diffrrent old stone mason marks visible.IMG_7400.jpg

That is a very interessant information for all and specially for me. In my blog I trie to give pilgrims more information about history, culture and geography along the caminos because if you have a better background than you will see and discover much more things. If you have interest, you find my blog under www.jakobsweghintergrund.com.

Buen camino Editha

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
My apologies for having erroneously resurrected Grado castle.
My maternal grandfather is from there. I was so hoping it was somehow hidden there. His favorite, and very old, watering hole was El Infierno, a local sidrería with wood shavings on the floor, went there in the late 60’s. Now completely disappeared.

This is why we keep journals (plus have electronic cameras that record the date). It was, in fact, Salas, which is on the Primitivo between Cornellana and Espina. My apologies for having erroneously resurrected Grado castle.
Now don't I feel the fool! I certainly remembered the same spot, but didn't equally remember the name of the vtown where it was.
