Academic conferences about the Camino

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
If you want to present at a conference, try searching on CFP UPenn (Call for Papers University of Pennsylvania) or variations on that theme. That used to function almost as a clearing house for academic organisations to advertise that they were seeking proposals for their forthcoming events. I haven't consulted it in months, but it used to be organised by subject/theme and conferences within the USA and those outside the USA. Otherwise try various websites that list specific conferences dealing with religion-related topics, but it sounds as if you might be headed more towards a tourist-economy based paper. I will send you a pm if others come to mind. You could, on the other hand, organise your own conference, I am sure that many on the forum might want to contribute to such an event. While there's been several in Spain over the last decade I can't recall one in the UK, but Harvard has a course in Pilgrim Studies, so perhaps that might be a useful place to check out what's happening in your area of research.

Thank you, SEB,

I could not find anything suitable in the UPenn database. A Google search has returned the Institute for Pilgrimage Studies at William and Mary, and the Centre for Pilgrimage Studies at the University of York. The York site has a list of conferences, but the ones most relevant to my topic were in the past.

William and Mary runs an annual symposium, which seems the best venue for me now.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

You might also want to check out general anthropology or theology events, as over the years I have attended sessions which dealt with pilgrimages to Czeztochowa (I am spelling from memory) and Fatima, and Christian/Muslim pilgrimages to saints' shrines in northern Syria (I would imagine that these are not much in operation these days). Without knowing which continent you might be on, I don't know if I can suggest a specific venue. If you are in Canada or the US, the Learneds (http://www.ideas-idees.ca/media/events/2016-congress-humanities-and-social-sciences) might be the best venue for theology or religious studies--- it might be late to get yourself on a society agenda this year. You have just passed the submission date for the anthropology event in Halifax in May (http://www.cas-sca.ca/conference/upcoming-conference) but both sites will give you an idea on possible venues for 2017.

Georgetown University hosted a screening of "The Way" with Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez speaking. The uni posted it on their YouTube site on March 26, 2011. The Uni rep mentions launching their "pilgrimage studies" program in Santiago de Compostella in 2012. Maybe they have something relative to your interests?

Thank you, C3 to Camino,

Georgetown is a member of the Consortium on Pilgrimage Studies, which is centered at William and Mary. I hope to meet key players at this year's symposium I have mentioned earlier.

I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Money stolen from bag on bed while sleeping. Estelle municipal hostel. Not a big inconvenience as my passport and credit cards were left.
