Just back 2 weeks from El Norte (started March 1st so many Albergues not yet open). Cash EUROS only (€6) at all municipal Albergues. Don’t expect to exchange currency in smaller towns. Out of 41 days total I stayed in a municipal or monastery 15 times, 22 nights at private Albergues (10-15€ usually w breakfast), rest nights in hotels at beginning or end. My dailynspending was average 25€/day. ATMs are in larger towns (following the classic El Norte stages). I agree, I carried €300, put 25€ in my day wallet and carried rest plus bank card in a separate neck pouch. Buen camino.
Hi Colette, I will be starting In Irun on May 4th. What are the classic Norte Stages?
How were the waymarkings? Did you have a Guide? I downloaded the Wise Pilgrim. Any suggestions and advice?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Rose, I have just booked a flight out to Biarritz on the 1st of May, Was originally going to fly the 3rd but forgot it was Bank Holiday Weekend here in UK so so flight was almost triple the price. I have the Wise Pilgrim Guide Book. Is it that you have downloaded or the app? If so do you recommend it? Not the cleverest cyber user if I'm honest. I have recently recovered from foot injury so pre Camino training has been minimal so you are likely to catch me up.
Will follow this thread for the advice given.
Buen Camino

I got the WISE PILGRIM app for free with purchase of the paper guide. It’s good I used it to,walk El Norte just now in March. Actually the live tracking and detailed maps allowed me to see and take foot paths along the coast thatbare not on paper maps that’s the detail level. I highly recommend using both paper and the app.

Did I reply? Wise pilgrim specifically doesn’t specify stages but if you google GRONZE.com you can see the “classic” stages.....the first week Irun to Bilbao are pretty well set because no or few places to sleep between bigger towns somedays.

I walked the Norte in 2016 and first had a guidebook we nicknamed The Crappy. Luck for me it was stolen off my table while in the bathroom. I downloaded Wise Pilgrim and it was great.

I use Alltrails a lot here in the US, in Iceland, on the Via Podiensis and a bit on the CF. Will it be useful on the Norte? For example, people here say the "warm up" from Biarritz to Irun (or...

Tomorrow I fly to Bilbao to start my 5th stint on the Camino. I did the Frances in three parts (2016, 2017 and 2022). Last year I did the Portuguese from Porto. I did the first 200 km of the...
