Camino Frances (Spring 2016)
Good morning,

Will be starting my first Camino mid May this year. I have booked a reservation in Orisson already, but am wondering if it is really necessary to book ahead for the pilgrims albergue in Roncesvalles?

Ok, thanks so much. I'll just trust that all will be well and not book.

Normally I would say no, but I understand over 200 pilgrims passed through Roncesvalles yesterday. This is according to a pilgrim who is there, not official. But I think I would book this year. It's super busy. It's an easy matter of sending them a €13 euro paypal payment via their email address.

Be careful what you wish for. The "big room" has such high ceilings that all sounds transmit and echo. The snoring at night is truly a symphony, a symphony you don't want to hear. Make sure to bring earplugs or earbuds!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

I walked first week of June last year and there was no issue with getting a bed there.

I didn't realize there was a dungeon and a penthouse. If you get there too late, you get the dungeon. I got the dungeon, but my friend let me use her shower in the penthouse. What a difference!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I noticed that they have a kitchen and dining room, so thought they might serve a meal too. Recommendationso on the evening meal? Breakfast the next morning?

When I was there last year you could buy a dinner ticket for one of two seatings, and also a breakfast ticket. I bought both, but wouldn't do breakfast there again. I would wait until arriving in Burguete or Espinal to have breakfast.

Likewise I got the dinner ticket, and had the evening meal. In the morning we walked maybe 10 minutes and there was a convenience store and we got bits to have for breakfast, we hadn't walked much further and there was a cafe in a little town, so I think I'd plough on and skip breakfast also as it worked out good for me, could leave when I was ready.

Thanks, I also booked ahead, I corresponded with someone there and he said some days are already full up, so I didn't want to take chances. Even with 200 beds on offer, the place can fill up.
