Hello every one! This is my first camino - starting in Lisbon on September 7th. Does anyone know if the albergue at Alpriate is open, please? I messaged their FB page but no reply as yet. Thank you.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

I have justvseen that I shouldn't have asked a question here. Very sorry.. a new member trying to navigate around this site. I will try better next time. My excuse is that my head is full of Camino just now, very excited!

Um, why shouldn’t you have asked that question here? Members ask questions like that here all the time, and, since your start date is quickly approaching, I think it is understandable that you would reach out to other places for the answer. If I was in your situation, I’d be asking here, too.
Buen Camino and don’t be afraid to ask anything. In fact, what took you so long to jump in/?:)

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

Hi, @greengirl and welcome to the forum, which is quite a merry band of camino lovers.

As @KathyF. said, absolutely no problem with asking the question here. I was going to move it for you over to the Camino Portugués Central section, but then I thought — if I do that, I can’t add @greengirl to the calendar! But someone, maybe you, beat me to it.

And yes, I believe that as Tinca says, the albergue is closed for the moment. There are a couple of threads with suggestions from people who have recently walked. You can probably find them with the search button. But you should feel free to start a new thread in the Camino Portugués Central sub-forum and ask about how to navigate those first few days out of Lisbon with the albergue closed.

Good luck and bom caminho!

I just wrote this to another pilgrim who is leaving next month. I have cut and pasted my response to him.
Gronze does do a good job of keeping up to date on openings/closings of albergues. I would also download the CP apps for Wise Pilgrim/Buen Camino and finally the Camino Ninja app. I have heard they also do an excellent job of keeping up on open/closed albergues. I will use it when I walk the VDLP in October. If you can please call ahead to make reservations directly. You will be surprised how many people can speak English in Portugal especially in private accommodations. Owners need all the euros they can get and booking through a third party cuts into their profits. You can often get better rates that way. It is less crowded until you get closer to Porto. I would also recommend taking the Spiritual Variant near the end of the Camino. It is supposed to be absolutely beautiful. There is lots of information here about it.
Have fun, have a hat and sunscreen. I also started around the same time and there is alot of open area especially from Lisbon that does not give you any protection from the sun. I think that whole camino we had about 8 drops of rain, literally and almost every day there was barely a cloud in the sky until we got close to Tui. But who knows how it will be this year. You will love the people of Portugal too.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

I checked last week, Alpriate albergue is closed. I will walk to Sacevem take the train to Alhandra and walk 5 km to sleep first night in Vila Franca de Xira to avoid having to back track plus avoid roadside walking stage1-2 which I’ve been told can be dangerous (been there, done dangerous roadside walking on ElNorte and not risking my life). I’ll surely make up those 15 km on the train while touring Lisbon upon arrival and on the xtra “tourist” days in various cities along the way.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have changed my plans now so I won't have to stay at Alpriate. I added myself to the calendar :)

Thank you for that info. Like you, I have decided to use the train at the beginning of the camino. I'm going to walk the first 10km while staying in Lisbon, then take the train to Vila Franca de Xira the next morning and walk to Azambuja for the first night's stay :)

Thank you! I am getting very excited with just one week to go! I have downloaded the Wise Pilgrim App so will look at that. I booked the first few nights via Booking.com but after that we will be doing as you suggest and dealing direct with proprietors. Yes, we plan the Coastal route from Porto and then the Spiritual variant and the boat to Padron. I am looking forward to some sunshine as it is getting autumnal now in Scotland!
